Book Reviews of The Yankee YearsBook Review: A Red Sox fan who enjoyed this book! Summary: 5 Stars
I am a die hard Red Sox fan who really likes Joe Torre and enjoyed this book. Besides some cool Red Sox information inside the book (how can one separate the two) the reader will get the chance to see the kind of character and strong moral standard that Torre possesses. I am intrigued by the "Yankee-Steinbrenner Machine" and this was the original reason that piqued my curiosity.
I am happy for Torre as he coaches the Dodgers and has experienced sweet justice as the Yankees did not make the 2008 playoffs. That made the Red Sox fan in me ecstatic and the Torre fan happy as well.
This is a great book ... I really enjoyed it.
Book Review: Excellent Read Summary: 5 Stars
Deals with many layers of baseball, some old and some new. In any event, much broader and interesting than the title suggests. At the end, I am left with the feeling that it is the tone and example set by the team's ownership that allow championship teams to flourish. Individual superstars do not guarantee championship teams, it is the collective strength of all the members of each team that contribute to their glory. I'd put this book in the category of Michael Lewis' Moneyball and The Blind Side for its revelations about topics that most of the fans are seldom exposed to. I highly recommend this book to any sports fan, baseball or otherwise!
Book Review: If you are a Yankee fan, or even a baseball fan, you'll love this book. Summary: 5 Stars
I took "The Yankee Years" on vacation with me to Cancun and spent many enjoyable hours on the beach reading it. It was honest and eye-opening. Joe Torre gave a behind the curtain look at what it was like to manage the Yankees all of those years, through the good times and not so good, dealing with the players that shared his philosophy and those who did their own thing and how difficult Steinbrenner was to work for but how Torre learned how to manage him also.
It was a fun page-turner and if you love baseball and especially if you love the Yankees, you will love this book.
Book Review: Must Read Sports Book Summary: 5 Stars
Im a Yankee fan but I think even if you are not, and you are a baseball fan or a sports fan at all, you should really read this book, mainly because well you will enjoy it. It's a very easy going book, it will keep you interested through out the book. Despite being written by Mr. Torre I found it very objective because well it's also written by a sports writer, and it has many stories mainly of the Yankee but also about other teams, such as the red soxs and baseball in general, the way it works.. etc.. Really a good book, not and autobiography.. I really enjoyed it and so did my father who also read it.
Book Review: Not just for Yankee fans! Summary: 5 Stars
Joe Torre and Tom Verducci have joined together for a real winning combination. Joe's calm style shows through in every line, as does his enthusiasm for his team and his players, and his absolute love for the game. The book doesn't just cover the good times and the highlights either. There are sections on the heart-wrenching losses, the games booted, player and manager errors, and just plain getting beat by a better team. Oh, yes, there are also beautiful full-color photo inserts that are worth more than their thousand words. I highly recommend it for any real baseball fan out there.
