Book Reviews of The Yankee Years

Book Review: Great inside view of a Yankee Dynasty
Summary: 5 Stars

It's a great book if you are a Yankee's fan or someone who loved to watch them play.

I loved watching these perennial Yankees filled with All Stars. The NY Yankees were truly the Goliath of Baseball. It was fascinating to not that they were a team filled with individual personalities.

The book in a semi-chronological order giving the reader an inside look at the various characters during the amazing 12 year run for the Yankees.

Joe Torre definitely had his judgments about the players. He loved Derek Jeter. He could not stand Kevin Brown. Carl Pavano was a constant whiner. Alex Rodrigues cared about what people thought of him - it was always about image with Alex.

Cashman was a Brutus of the organization and in the end, Cashman help sabatage him.

Steinbrenner was not very much different from the Steinbrenner character that was on Seinfeld. He liked to create divisions between people so that he could maintain control.

Book Review: Great Book
Summary: 5 Stars

I thought this book was terrific. In fact it was much better than I initially thought it would be. As for all the drama that went along with it...i dont know...it wasnt all that contraversial to me. But he does tell all about the inner going ons of the club house; which is very interesting. This book was gripping, incredibly hard to put down. I wouldnt mind reading it again. Now that i said all that I do have to admit I am a big yankee fan, so maybe im a little one sided. Im not sure other non yankee fans will enjoy it as much as I did. BUT i do think they will enjoy it. Just not as much as a yankee fan I guess. After all it is a book about the 1996-2007 yankees. This book really changed my atitudes towards some of the players. Some who are greedy, some fake injuries, some are in the clouds of stardumb. But it also reinforces my feeling toward the good players like Jeter, Williams, Cone, and others. Ok that was my dumb review. Just go buy it already.

Book Review: Well Done! to Joe and Tom.
Summary: 5 Stars

As Baseball books go, this one ranks near the top. Tom Verducci, of Sports Illustrated, is one of the best. He is the intellect, the casual observer. His insights provide the reader with a clear picture of what transpires in the locker room, as well as on the field of dreams. Joe Torre, the former catcher turned manager, is the bull. Back in the mid 90's, Joe jumped head first into the tempest known as the New York Yankees, and proceeded to turn a directionless team into a perennial winner, in spite of George Steinbrenner's constant interference. "The Bronx Zoo" never had a better keeper. In THE YANKEE YEARS, Tom Verducci calls the game, while Joe Torre provides the color.

Book Review: marioconnie
Summary: 5 Stars

Unlike what was being said prior to the publication about Torre's book, I found it to be very interesting and honestly written. Joe told it as it was and what was most revealng was the character of some of the players, he came in contact with. Steinbrenner, has never surprised me as I had read the book about his baloney concerning Blly Martin. He only clarified my opinion of him...A buffon with money. Without it, he is a NOTHING person. The treatment of Torre was just a continuation of how he treats people when he doesn't need them any longer. To me JOE TORRE will always be a GREAT Yankee mgr. It's the Yankees loss. Buy this book, it's worth reading and quite entertaining....

Book Review: Great book for not only Yankee fans, but baseball fans
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been a Yankee fan for years, for as long as I can remember and adored Joe Torre during his time in NY. I was nervous and worried that after reading this book my opinion of him might change. It received so much media coverage about all the negative things he said and in actuality, he only spoke the truth. It is insightful and honest, and gave me even more of an appreciation of how wonderful of a manager he truly is. It also shows how the Boston Red Sox changed their organization around and the changes they made, coincidentally at the same time the Yankees fell apart. It is simply fascinating. The book is easy to read, and I recommend it to any baseball fan.
