Book Reviews of The Wide-Mouthed Frog (A Pop-Up Book)Book Review: Great pop-up book! Summary: 5 Stars
This book was given to me over a decade ago by my family for completing a year of college. Well, I'm known as the "wide mouthed frog" of the family, so it was quite apropos.
I now have a 16-month-old daughter, and this is one of her favorite books. The pictures and pop-ups are really nicely done, and it's a simple and cute story. She loves to touch the protruding snouts on each of the creatures, and the whiskers on the little mouse. She squeals nearly every time I open it up and show her the first page with the frog's big old tongue flapping out of that wide mouth.
Recently, I bought it for an adult friend going through therapy for post-cancer oral surgery, partly to encourage her to open that mouth wide! It's a real lift-me-up, and a sweet book to give for many occasions.
I highly recommend it for anyone.
Book Review: What a great book Summary: 5 Stars
I love books and really wanted my son (now 8 months old) to show an interest in books as well. Unfortunately every book I bought went straight in his mouth and the pages were grabbed and pulled. I tried making the stories as interesting as possible by reading with lots of feeling and expression, changing my voice for the different characters, making silly sounds etc. Nothing worked UNTIL I bought this book. WOW, he just sat there mesmerized by the pop up animals, he can't get enough of this book. The story is short and simple, so he doesn't get bored or lose his concentration. There are only 4 characters/animals so you can change your voice and make the animal sounds without it getting too confusing. The pictures are bright and the pop up characters are sturdy and interactive. A must have.
Book Review: The Twins' Favorite Book Summary: 5 Stars
Absolutely loved, loved, loved this book - my husband brought it home after a business trip when our boy/girl twins were just six weeks old, and by the time they were a year old, it was one of their most favorite books...and remained so, for several years. The illustrations really come to life with these amazing pop-ups, and the huge "Splash!" at the end always sent the kids into giggles. Eight years later, I purchased another copy of the book to send to my brother's baby boy - and he loves it just as much as his cousins always did. I highly recommend this book for anyone with children aged anywhere around 10 months - 4 years, and even older!
Book Review: One of this children's librarian's favorites! Summary: 5 Stars
I do Preschool (3-5 years) and Mother Goose (6 months to 2 years) storytimes at the public library where I work. This book is one of my very favorites but more importantly it's also one of my kid's favorites. Yes, you have to do the voices of the animals! The pop-ups are great. This is one of my favorites of all the many pop-ups I own. Keith Faulkner's other pop-ups are good too, especially when he teams up with Jonathan Lambert. In fact, Faulkner is my favorite pop-up author and I wish I could get him to come to my library. (I think he lives in England.) Even though this one is his best, don't stop here. Get more pop-ups by him.
Book Review: Voted Best Book by Glenn and Reed Summary: 5 Stars
This wonderful book is my 16 month-old twins' absolute FAVORITE story and has been for quite some time. I have to admit that it's probably my favorite book to read to them too, since I can make the delighful pop-up animals appear to speak while I'm reading their lines in silly character voices. My boys always start to smile and reach to turn the pages in anticipation of the big "SPLASH" at the end of the book, and they make me open that page over and over again. This book has become the gift I give to all one year-olds celebrating their birthdays. I'm so glad to see that it's no longer out of print!
