Book Reviews of The Westing Game (Puffin Modern Classics)

Book Review: The Westing Game
Summary: 5 Stars

The book that I read is called the Westing Game.
In that book there is a lot of adventure. The book has a lot of mystery in it. The book is about a man named Samuel W. Westing who disappeared 13 years ago. Some town's people say that he lies dead on an oriental rug. The book is like a game of like finding out how murdered Samuel W. Westing the grand prize is for the person who figured out how murdered Mr. Westing is gave $200,000,000.00. The place of the story was surd off like urban and like suburbs. My favorite part of the story is when Turtle had to stay one night in Mr. Westing's house for $25.00 dollars. I recommend this book to someone who likes mystery and adventure.
I think the biggest conflict was when the groups were blaming each other that they killed Mr. Westing. The second biggest conflict was when there were four booms that went off. Some people got injured. The groups that Mr. Westing picked were okay. The group had two people in each group, the characters became friends. The character that killed Mr. westing had to go to jail. Read the book to find out what happens in the end overall I think the book is really good. It only had has 216 pages. The pages are really short. I recommend 10-up should read the book.

Book Review: STILL a favorite 25 years later
Summary: 5 Stars

I first read this book when I was in my early teens. I've read it at least half a dozen times and have given it to many kids for their birthdays or Christmas (one poor cousin received it three Christmases in a row).

I got it again this time for my nephew or niece, and re-read it (again) before passing it on. It is just as fabulous as ever. It's a great puzzle mystery and has all the best parts of an Agatha Christie novel for young adults - scheming victim, neglected daughter, perfect daughter, not-quite-good-enough husband, social climbing wife, jock, physically challenged brother, taken-for-granted brother, tired parents, wistful mother, cranky father, narcissistic wall flower, rags to riches success story, supercilious fiancé, people who are not who they say.

It is close to the perfect puzzle story and with great characters (not necessarily well developed, but real enough for plausibility) and a perfect set up, with enough happy endings to go around.

There is nothing in the book that a parent would need to feel concerned with - no violence, no sex, no swearing, and there is a positive "be who you want to be not who people tell you to be" message that should resonate well with young people.

Book Review: Loved it as a kid, still love it as an adult.
Summary: 5 Stars

The Westing Game was one of my absolute favorite books as a kid after I read it in elementary school, so I decided to pick it up as an adult and see if it still held my attention as well and if I would still feel the same way about it. I was definitely not disappointed.

The Westing Game is a murder mystery and a wonderfully intricate puzzle. Sixteen would-be heirs that seem to have little or no connection to each other are brought together to solve the mystery of Sam Westing's death and, in doing so, lay claim to the Westing fortune. The heirs are paired up and the clues are revealed bit-by-bit -- "Clue" style. I remember loving the clever and complex puzzle that is the Westing Game when I was younger, and it was just as fascinating to read all these years later. The story unfolds perfectly, with the clues leading the reader all over the place until everything wraps up tightly at the end.

Book Review: Absolutely my favorite book!
Summary: 5 Stars

If I had to pick one book that has been with me the majority of my "reading" life, this is it. My 7th grade teacher read this outloud to us everyday, and I remember going to class excited to find out what happened next. I got my own copy of it a few years later, and I just bought a hardback copy on Amazon so I can keep it nice for years and years to come. I absolutely love this book. It is so good, I love the tons of different characters, it allows almost anyone who reads it have someone to identify with. I never guessed the mystery at the end, and everytime I read it I am amazed at just how good of a story and mystery this is. If you are looking for a great book, this is it. I am 23, and still read this book every once in a while. For an adult this is a short read, but still a quality book. Thank you, Ellen Raskin, for many great childhood memories!

Book Review: The Westing Game
Summary: 5 Stars

The Westing Game has many unique characters, and each one has a different personality. The plot is about a supposedly deceased millionaire trying to find his heir, he had a daughter and a wife but his daughter committed suicide so she wouldn't have to marry a politician. His wife and he later got divorced, leaving no one to inherit over $200,000,000 from Westing Paper Products. In his will he gathered his 16 nearest and dearest nieces and nephews to play the westing game. The heirs are paired up and given $5,000 each to solve the game, and find out who killed Mr.Westing. Only one will win it all and it could be an adult or a child, but it won't be easy. They might be fooled by Mr.Westing or even one of the heirs. You won't know who's who until the ending that you won't ever see coming. The Westing Game is an amazing book for people of all ages.
