This book is awesome. The author had invaluable insights and experiences, was creative and rather hilarious in his presentation, and included maps that even I could understand. I think I read this book ten times through, highlighting and bookmarking. The one time I left it in the lodge, we got lost (not irrevocably since it's basically a one-way island). I've already loaned it out twice and recommended it to anyone who cares. If you are going to any of the Hawaiian islands, get this man's book about it- you will wonder how you've ever gone on vacation without him.Book Review: The Very Best of the Guide Books

This author takes the time and has the integrity to write one of the best if not the best guide books published. He lives on the islands and knows them so well that after reading the book you will feel as if you live there also. He has a passion to prevent you from wasting your time on a B grade attraction when an A grade is hidden across the street. I recommend this book and all the others he writes without reservation. Buy it and save a fortune in wasted money while enjoying the islands the way the natives do.

Book Review: Best Hawaiian Island Guidebooks

My wife and I did not leave the hotel without this book. We used it to select everywhere we visited, every tour group we used, and every restaurant in which we ate. The author hit the mark on everything without fail. His descriptions were extremely accurate and the best part was sometimes the author was pretty stinking funny. We purchased Fodor's Oahu book, but it was too sterile and we did not find it to have as much detail for sites and restaurants. We ended up borrowing the Ultimate Oahu Guidebook from a friend once we arrived in Oahu.Book Review: Buy this book

There is a reason why you see this book plastered to the faces of so many passengers in rental cars throught the island. It is indespensable. I has loads of information about the islands history and current information that you can trust. This book perfectly complimented our twelve day trip to the island. Do yourself and favor and get the most current version of this book. Considering what you will be spending on your vacation if it saves you the cost of one bad meal it will be worth the price paid.Book Review: Great Book, Easy Read

For our trip coming up in June, we purchased the Ultimate Kauai Guidebook already having the Maui version. As with the Maui version, this one is a great resource to review in advance and to have on hand when we arrive at our destination. The maps are detailed and colored effectively for easy reference. The narrative is descriptive without being too wordy (along with some decent humor mixed in) and gives a sense of what we need to see. The pictures are gorgeous as well. Highly recommended!
