Book Reviews of The Ultimate Gift (The Ultimate Series #1)Book Review: Nice, feel good piece Summary: 4 Stars
This was a short easy to read book that left me feeling inspired. I would recommend it as a good pick me up.
Book Review: Ultimate Gift good read Summary: 4 Stars
It is a amazing book and I could relate to some parts in the book.
Book Review: The movie was better Summary: 3 Stars
I was very disappointed in this book. I saw the movie and loved it, so I sought out the book and bought it. I loved that the movie actually followed Jason around so we could see how he struggled through each of his "gifts." The book, however, is written in first person from Red Stevens' lawyers point of view. All the reader gets is Jason's report of what happened over the course of the month. The book would have been so much better if it was from Jason's viewpoint, or at least in the third person following Jason so we could actually see what he goes through. Instead the book came off as being preachy and sentimental, with Jason talking about how much he learned from each experience. Stovall has apparently not mastered the art of showing vs. telling, to me a big no-no in creative writing.
Book Review: The movie is much better Summary: 3 Stars
I bought the book and its sequel because I loved the movie. After seeing the movie, I bought copies of it for everyone in my extended family. I'm thankful I didn't buy them the book. The book left out the learning process. The best part of a trip is the journey, not the destination. In this book, all we got was the beginning and end of each lesson. How the lessons were learned was missing.
See the movie. It is amazing!!! The only thing better about the book was the end, but it isn't worth reading the whole thing to get there.
Book Review: Too much of a fairy tale Summary: 3 Stars
The best word I can come up with to describe this book is "meh". It was just so-so. Slightly interesting story with some very valuable points. However, its just too fake. It is meant to be a sort of inspirational book but I just doesn't do it for me with such make believe ideas. The world doesn't work the way Stovall portrays in the book and therefore I can't relate to the points he tries to make.
Luckily it is short and a very easy read. So if you have access to it, read it. Just don't buy it and if you do don't pay full price.
