If you like "The Official Strategy Guide to Microsoft Flight Simulator 5.1" by the same author, you would like this book too. Even though the help system in Microsoft Flight Simulator 98 is very comprehensive, the additional information provided in this book is incredible. In addition to the detail explaniation of the technology and principles of flight, it covers a lot of new topics, such as the scenery design, great circle naviagtion and global navigation (GPS). The 300 pages of 9 Appendix, which include the World Aeronautical Charts and Adventure Programming Language Reference is actually a very useful "reference book" inside this book. But the greatest thing is the bundled CD-ROM. You could find Scenery Designer for Windows, new planes, GPS Navigation Tools, Flight Planner, map and charts inside, something most of the FS fans want to have. This is the best book on Microsoft Flight Simulator.

This is the ultimate flight simulator refere nce guide, and the only book any fan of the game will need. The CD-ROM contains 200 sq. feet of global maps and enough i nformation to fly around the world and explore exotic areas 'Right up there with Myst, Riven, and the reams of hunting games currently flooding the market, Microsoft's Flight Simulator series is a mainstay on the computer game bestseller lists year in and year out. Though it has been out for over a year now, it's such an exhaustive and valuable resource that we feel any serious Flight Sim jockey should have it in his or her library. This massive tome (which tips in at 1,000 pages) covers the Microsoft Flight Simulator for Windows 95 and Flight Simulator 98 releases and serves up just about everything there is to know about the games and the challenge of becoming a master virtual pilot. It's easy to get intimidated by your first glance at this book--if you're not put off by the sheer size of the thing. After all, the numerous discussions of physics and the real-world science of flight might just do the trick. However, author Nick Darghi has gathered a ton of useful information here, and we're certain that hardcore fans of the game will appreciate his attention to detail. Even newcomers will find a lot to like in the book, and it's safe to say that any novice using this book in conjunction with the game's online manual will graduate to hardcore status in a hurry.
The Ultimate Flight Simulator Pilot's Guidebook also comes with a CD-ROM, which includes some add-on scenery, additional aircraft to fly (including the Messerschmitt Me 262, the original fighter jet), and a wealth of other tools and utilities. Much of this software is a bit dated (the book was released in December of 1997, after all), but it's still usable and can add a lot to an already outstanding simulation.
