Book Reviews of The Testament

Book Review: THIS WAS A GREAT STORY
Summary: 5 Stars

This was a quick read for me. I loved this story. I get the feeling Mr Grisham is trying to branch out in other the directions in this story. What a grand idea for the character to show a more human face. The main charcter look for the daughter of a recently died Troy Phelan; a self-made billionaire. But get this, the daugther does not want her money. She chooses to give her life to God and walk away from the mordern world and .... You got to read it for yourself. This is a remarkable adventure. Score another one for JG. This is a sure 6 or 7 stars if possible. I wonder will the recently book release, The Brethren, be this good. In my book the PARTNER by JG is as good as the TESTAMENT. Book Review: So far, the best John Grisham novel
Summary: 5 Stars

This is certainly the best John Grisham novel so far. A self-made billionaire commits suicide. When his last will is discovered, it is mind-boggling to the supposed-to-be heirs. He leaves his vast fortune to one of his children, Rachel. But she's enstranged to her father, and has given her life to God as a missionary in the jungles of Brazil. Now, the lawyers have to find her, which is not an easy task. In the meanwhile, the supposed-to-be heirs are circling like vultures, trying to overturn the 'insane' will. The story is suspenseful, heart-warming, adventurous, and beautifully written. It's also a picture of human nature, and the story carries a rare genuine redemptive byline. Really a good book!

Book Review: Very enjoyable -- a must read for Grisham fans
Summary: 5 Stars

I just finished this very excellent book by John Grisham and I was curious how other readers felt about it. I truly believe 3 and 1/2 stars is very low for this fast paced, very intriguing novel. I laughed when I saw that the two worst Grisham novels (Runaway Jury and especially The Client) had higher average ratings as this book was much better than either of those. I admit some of the characters were stereotypical, but I really enjoyed Grisham's description of the so-called family and their attorneys. Do yourself a favor and read this entertaining book. I have to admit I love this book even more after starting my next book, what a snoozer compared to anything written by "The King".

Book Review: The Best Grisham Book Yet
Summary: 5 Stars

I enjoyed this Grisham book better than any of the others. While it did not have the action of The Firm, it did have an intriguing plot and what I considered to be great character development. As a lawyer, I was interested in the portrayal of the attorneys for the Phelan heirs. I think I recognized some of them!!! Most of us do not read John Grisham books for their depth. We read them as a diversion. I can honestly say that Mr. Grisham has once again kept my attention for a sustained period of time. If you are looking for deep psychological meaning or heavy philosophical messages you will not find it here, but this book does have some subtle, but serious religious messages.

Book Review: A Grisham Masterpiece
Summary: 5 Stars

This has to be one of Grisham's finest. In short, it's about a billionaire who sticks it to his kids one last time before his death. A lawyer grabs his fragile sobriety and heads into the depths of Brazil to find the sole heir. It's an interesting story with a few unexpected twists, but not too much of the legal tedium displayed in some of his earlier works. The depth to which the characters are developed is uncanny...you almost feel the heat of their emotions. It is as much a story on the trappings and failings (and somewhat rare triumphs) of our American culture as it is a story about the distrubution of a billionaires' estate. A great read, I hated for it to end.
