Book Reviews of The TestamentBook Review: The Verdict Is In: It's A Winner!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Is there anything our favorite legal "eagle" can't do? The only way it could have been any more realistic was if it was written in Latin. (Relax, it's not!)It's another fast paced thriller that takes you through all the trials (get it?) and tribulations of our messy law system, but wraps it up neatly in the end. And what an ending it is! You'll never guess it either! The only part I wasn't entirely sure of was the symbolism of the young female law clerk, but sometimes his books can be read on so many levels, it's hard to keep track. All in all a great offering from a great novelist. The best parts call to mind the workings of a young Turow or Patterson. He's almost enough to make you like lawyers. Just kidding! (That's a joke - the just kidding part.)
Book Review: I throughly enjoyed this book! Summary: 5 Stars
This story is (I think) quite a change from Grisham's other books, but nonetheless completely absorbing. An attorney who has been in and out of rehab for alcohol and drug abuse is sent to a remote area somewhere in Brazil to locate a young woman working as a missionary with an indian tribe, who has just become the sole beneficiary of a multi-billion dollar estate. In the process, the attorney faces many dangers and his own mortality, eventually coming to grips with his life and his problems, probably for the first time. He comes back to civilization a totally changed man. Grisham's treatment of the subject of Christianity and committing one's life for God's service is honest and sincere, and thought-provoking. I finished this book feeling tremendously satisfied.
Book Review: a powerful and meaningful story of family, greed and trust Summary: 5 Stars
first of all i love all of john grisham's novels...i read all of them except 3...but i actually couldnt put this book down because it had me wondering what would happen next....is rachel going to take the money or is she going to let her greedy siblings take it and just do what they always do when they get money....and is nate going to just flee and hide in the corner and drink his life away...it had so many interesting turnarounds that i was wanting more information about the characters...i practically took the book everywhere i went...this is a must read to those who think money is everything and forget the true meaning of being happy with what you already have *S*...i gurantee that it will change your heart, mind and soul when you read the testament*S
Book Review: The most inspiring novel I have read in a long time Summary: 5 Stars
After listening to the abriged audiobook version of The Testament, I was so moved by the story that I immediately read the full-length version and found it one of the most inspiring novels I have read in a long time. It's no wonder that it became the #1 NY Times best-seller so quickly. As an avid Grisham reader, I have always found him to be a master of suspense with socially relevant themes. The Testament was a pleasant surprise with its theme of spiritual recovery and redemption reminiscent of the best of Graham Greene. I admire Grisham for his ability to write such a popular best-seller without the gratuitous sex and foul language so prevalent in other writers of this genre and for his skill in writing a book that is both suspensful and inspirational.
Book Review: This book is spiritual and funny, the best Grisham yet! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm an avid Grisham reader, before i read this book though I had yet to find one that topped "The Partner". "The Testament" does by a mile. The characters are so human you feel like you know them, and you completly sympathize, if not empathize with the main charaters. You loathe the adult Phelan children, and the south american setting will capture your imagination. Grisham also includes a religious theme that is absent from his previous books, but that only enhances the plot, and in no way detracts from the characters. It helps you to understand their motovations, and in the main characters case you can easily see how Rachel's faith effects him. This is an amazing book, good for die hard Grisham fan's and first timer's alike.
