Book Reviews of The Testament

Book Review: A deep study of the inner life of a man
Summary: 5 Stars

I am an avid John Grisham reader as well a member of the legal profession. I find that although Mr. Grisham adds a little more salt than the everyday legal experience, I have also found that truth is stranger than fiction. What is truly striking is that at the center of a gripping plot that will not quit, Mr. Graham explores the struggles of a man with life itself. This is likely to be the masterpiece of a good, solid writer's career. I will confess that I am a christian. I am surprised that even though up to one third of the US population has "found religion", so few books even broach the subject and almost never in a positive light. Throughout his books truths of the human spirit have been woven. This is the mark of timeless literature. As cultures and issues rise and fade, human nature is constant from the beginning of time until the end. Thus literature that records the nature of man accurately rings true to a soul regardless of time and place. Such a record written today will only prove true when someone in the year 2300 will pick up this book and find their experience on its' pages. I believe Mr. Grisham will accomplish that.

Book Review: The Book of Adventures
Summary: 5 Stars

This was definately one of the best novels I have ever read. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read an excellent book. This was the first John Grisham book I have ever read and I am positive it will not be my last. I couldn't put this book down once I started reading it because it was so wonderful! This book is definately worth reading. This book is about a multi-billionaire who wants to end his life. He leaves a testament giving his eleven billion dollar estate to his illegitimate daughter, Rachel Lane. His lawyer sends a litigator, Nate, to go find her. He finds her after many dangerous incidents. She shows no interest in signing the document. Nate returned to Washington to find that he was appointed as Rachel's lawyer. It is now Nate's job to find Rachel and find out what to do with the money. This is an adventurous, suspenseful novel which will definately attract you to Grisham's work. This book not only grabs your attention with its descriptions, it teaches you about Brazil and much information on litigation. This was an excellent book and I would recommend it to anyone who simply wants to read a great book.

Book Review: The best Grisham book yet.
Summary: 5 Stars

I have read most of Grisham's books. The early ones were quite good. The later ones seem to reflect little more than animosity toward the legal profession (an occupation at which Grisham was obviously ineffective). The Rainmaker, for instance, is totally unrealistic, as the attorney there (esp. in the movie) has less knowledge of the law than a first year law student. In fact, none of Grisham's books have accurately portrayed the law. Like the rest, this one has mistakes, but it is more accurate than false. Will contests really do involve the legal standards he cites. And depositions occur almost precisely as the protagonist in this book takes them. I'm Agnostic and therefore was skeptical that I would enjoy a book with such religious overtures. I was wrong. The missionary is respectable and admirable, as is the main character. This is a wonderful book. My only criticism concens Grisham's obvious intent to demonstrate that his (lawyer) hero is a rarity, when, in reality, there are many lawyers just like him.

Book Review: Undoubtedly one of Mr Grishams better efforts!
Summary: 5 Stars

Reading the first chapter of John Grishams latest offering I knew I was in for a treat so was determined to extend that pleasure as long as possible. Its a gripping story to say the least with a good dose of antiheroism skullduggery and saintliness spread around its main characters. I enjoyed it immensely for its gripping plot, its original storyline but mostly for its central characters. Nate I could certainly identify with having just come out of a drug rehab myself. His propensity for falling into diches and picking himself up again was too close to home. You couldnt help but love the guy, warts and all. Rachel reminded me of someone to whom I am very close who drives me to distraction for seeing the goodness in everyone. The hinterlands of South America have never interested me much until now and if such people like Rachel do exist there maybe theres hope for the rest of us. Lastly it kept me from watching that square tube for three days, including the internet. Its up there in my top ten list for sure.Thankyou John.

Book Review: It is a great book that tells a great story.
Summary: 5 Stars

The Testament tells a fascinating story of a man, Nate O'Reily, who has a life looking for happines and full of slips and falls. His life is a wreck! He gets sent straight from rehab into the jungle of Brazil to search for a missionary that happens to be an heir of eleven billion dollars. He finds the jungle to be full of danger and to be so close to death at every moment. He finds Rachel Lane to be a fabulous woman that has left behind the modern world to do God's work ministering to a indian tribe deep in the jungle. In the short time of contact that they had she taught him a great deal about what life is truly about and planted a seed that would change his life forever. While Nate's life was being changed for the good, the Phelan family was living their lives full of corruption and deceit. Fooled by their uncontented rich father who fully disliked all his family but one illigetimate child, who he does not really know, but still gives her his eleven billion dollar estate.
