Book Reviews of The Taste of Home CookbookBook Review: REAL food for REAL people Summary: 5 Stars
I love everything that Taste of Home puts out. This book in particular is fantastic. Every recipe I try turns out well, and the ingredients used in most recipes are easily found and relatively cheap. I don't have to buy exotic produce or spices! Also, I don't use alcohol in my cooking and I never have to worry about substitutions because very few, if any, recipes contain alcohol. The removable splash-guard is great, too, because I'm constantly dripping/splashing/spilling on my cookbooks. You can put it between any two pages and it keeps them dry and clean. There are lots of pictures and extra cooking tips and tricks. It works as a cooking reference as well as a cookbook.
Book Review: Pictures Pictures Pictures Summary: 5 Stars
I am a fan of every Taste Of Home cookbook that has been published. I love to cook home cooked meals in my kitchen but I find it a problem sometimes when I can't visually see what the outcome is supose to look like. With this new and awesome cookbook, and just like their others, there are plenty of pictures to go with the recipes.
I find the presentation of the cookbook very orgazined, creative and helpful. The binder is really easy to navigate through and once I find a recipe I want to try I can just take it out of the binder and put it back in it's place when I am finished.
This will be one book that I will be giving as a gift. Love it.
Book Review: Tastes Like Home Summary: 5 Stars
The Taste of Home Cookbook published by Reader's Digest is a wonderful addition to any home cook's library. This cookbook is unique in that it consists of recipes sumitted by authentic home cooks as well as offering the standard professional tips.
This book would be great for a novice cook who wants to start with a solid base of time tested recipes, or the more accomplished cook who wants to get back to basics.
My cookbook came with a one year subscription to the Taste of Home magazine which in and of itself paid for the price of the cookbook. I am not sure if this is always a package but if it is, jump on it. Very well worth it!
Book Review: I purchased 5 books and am so glad I did!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This book is truly a great deal. Hard cover, spiral so the book lays flat. Plastic insert to keep your pages clean. One of the best books for a beginner cook. Directions on cuts of meat, how to carve a turkey, different herbs and their use, different kinds of mushrooms, measurements and equivalents, cooking times, all kinds of tips and very helpful directions... I could go on with that but it's quite clear :-) Great Indexes and each section has it's own little indexe. Recipes are easy to follow and the ones I have tried so far are delicious. I have four children and each one is receiving the book as a present for christmas! Definitely worth the money.
Book Review: Wonderful Starter Cookbook Summary: 5 Stars
I am absolutely thrilled with this cookbook. The recipe format and page layout is incredibly easy to read and they include very useful and practical information throughout the book. Tons of photographs and the recipes themselves are delicious. The information for starter cooks alone would be enough to buy this book (example: in the potato section, they provide photographs and explain the difference between waxy/non-waxy potatoes and the kinds of preparation each is good for...). There is a healthy variety of recipes (covering pretty much every course type) - which makes this a very good, general purpose cookbook.
