Book Reviews of The Taste of Home CookbookBook Review: Real food, for real people packed w/ info extras. Summary: 5 Stars
I have long been a fan of the Taste of Home magazine & would collect their annual "Yearbooks" of recipes. Naturally I had to add this to my collection and was pleasantly surpised by the addition of a conversion and substitution chart on the inside cover. The lay out of the book itself is orderly and in each section includes a wealth of information on everything from different cheeses, meat preparation, utensils, what goes well with what etc.
Taste of Home recipes have always been a plus in that they were always good food made from readily availble ingredients, yet the addition of easy to read charts and photos provide crucial how-to information that makes this an excellent book for a novice cook while the variety in recipes will offer plenty of new options to try out for an advanced cook.
I also liked that the book is sturdy and very well made, it is designed for endurance and extensive use.
As usual Taste of Home does not disapoint & this book is Highly recomended!
Book Review: Just what I hoped for Summary: 5 Stars
I've been a Taste of Home fan for years and was thrilled to hear that they were finally coming out with a big book like this. I bought three copies--one for myself and two to give as gifts. I opened my copy and fell in love with it! The recipes were exactly what I would expect from Taste of Home--easy to make with everyday ingredients.
I was impressed with the variety of recipes and how many there were. It certainly didn't seem like there were any repeats! I also like the binder and the splash guards. I love to cook, but sometimes it can get a little messy in the process. The splash guards should do the trick. I'm giving the two extra books as wedding shower gifts. I hadn't, however, planned on giving away my copy, but my daughter-in-law was looking through it and found a few recipes she wanted to try--and she doesn't even cook! So I sent it home with her. I'll be getting another one for myself.
Book Review: Great Starter Cookbook! Summary: 5 Stars
My mom bought me this cookbook when I first bought a house and actually had room to cook more than box/frozen foods! This cookbook is truly for starters! It breaks down different cuts of meat, types of pastas, fruits, vegetables, cheeses and how to prepare them and purchase them. All of the recipes use common items, so once you stalk up your cabinets with basics (like flour, sugar, major spices, etc) all you need to buy is the perishable items like meat. It's nice to be able to cook 5 meals and only have to buy a few items! The layout is very easy to read and it includes definitions so when you aren't sure what something means like "braising" you can just look it up in the front, they include every term they use. I also have yet to find a recipe that I don't like. But I am not that picky... :-) I have bought this book for several of my "noob" cooking friends and they have all loved it. Enjoy!
Book Review: SCRUMPTIOUS LOOKING RECIPES PLUS OTHER INFO!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought 2 of these books for my cousins becuase one has a kid and may have more soon and the other always cooks for in-laws or other relatives. I really LOVE this cookbook! It has kitchen basics like common cutting and chopping techniques for the complete beginner. It has common cooking techniques. It basically has every single category of menu items that you can think of (like Appetizers, Beverages, Soups and Sandwiches, Beef and Veal, Pork, Lamb, Desserts, and more). It has a lot of good info for beginner and maybe expert as well. Like for Seafood, It has defrosting guidelines, removing skin from a fillet, How To Shuck A Hard-Shell Clam, Cracking and Cleaning Cooked Whole Lobster and More. I gave this cookbook a five because of how much content, the way the book is made, and the recipes. If you know someone that REALLY LOOOVVVVES TO COOK, BUY THIS BOOK!!!
