Book Reviews of The Sweet Potato Queens' Book of LoveBook Review: She loves men 'cause they taste just like chicken! Summary: 5 Stars
Any organization (and I use that word loosely in relation to the Sweet Potato Queens)that consists of a bunch of women all of whom are named Tammy has got to be good. There is so much to learn from the SPQ's Book of Love. Where else will you find the etymology for the curious phrase "Jay at the Desk"? Who else could examine with such insight the theological mysteries of why Baptists don't wear shorts on Sunday? And all that business about panties and parties, Good God! I need more. Baby, just give it to me. I feel like I'm the only man she ever loved and henceforth I shall be more particular about everything. Especially about the kind of margaritas I make. Read this book and you will be prepared for just about anything that comes your way, unless of course it's a pack of Sweet Potato Queens.
Book Review: This has to be one of the funniest books I have read. Summary: 5 Stars
I cannot believe the bad reviews from Mississippi (Jackson). These have to be women who could not even make the "wannabee's list". I hope every one disregards their comments and reads the book because it is the basic fundamental rules and ways of women, and I mean women, rich, poor, fat, skinny or be whatever. My daughter bought it and she should get a commission for all of the men and women who I have told about this book. You have to laugh and enjoy if you are human because almost every chapter is something you have either done or would, given the opportunity. I will be 62 and still do some of the things, and almost bought the stilleto heels and teddy, but decided my husband's heart couldn't take it and besides will wait until I reach Medicare age, and let them pick up the orthopedic bill.
Book Review: High Hilarity from an Author who "gets it". Summary: 5 Stars
The Sweet Potato Queens, led by the author Jill Connor Browne, have managed to distill all of life into a handy manual of hilarity. Although not light reading, The Sweet Potato Queens Book of Love is a must for anyone taking themselves too seriously and should be mandatory reading in colleges where fun is only being defined by the keg. Life lessons included in the price, the author seems to draw on incredibly deep resources, lending to her ability to "be partickler" about the content. The book points at you and admits that YOU are the one they are laughing AT, not with, and you are so relieved when their fickle finger points in another's direction that you can't help wanting to join in...but they won't LET you! Well worth the read, you will remember it fondly..I still am.
Book Review: Start here... Summary: 5 Stars
This is the first installment in "The Sweet Potato Queens" series by Jill Conner Browne. I have not laughed this hard since I first discovered Louis Grizzard. While lolling about, my best friend and I love to read this book aloud to each other!!! True story: I 'lost' my first copy so I purchased another. After being MIA for a year my first copy resurfaced and I still won't let ANYONE borrow it. Instead, if I want someone to enjoy this book I buy them one of their own. It's as if Miss Browne has been inside my head and/or heard some of my conversations! After reading this first installment you will crawl outta your brain to read the next. This author is intelligent and expresses so much logical truth. This book is the "southern" book for all women.
Book Review: Some people just will never get it Summary: 5 Stars
This by far is one of the best books I have ever read... and it is unfortunate that some people will just never get it. That is what separates queenliness from every-day people. If you are a Queen at heart, you will instantly bond with and enjoy the humor in the SPQBOL. It has improved many women's lives by telling them that it is OK to be a "fallen southern belle"... and if you've never ridden on the back of a convertible and waved, then I am sorry for you, because it is a ball of fun. Not much in life is better. Thank you to HRH JCB for writing such a fantastic book!!! If I could break out of school for the pilgrimage to Jackson, I would be there in my regalia dancing in the street and drinking my margarita. Cheers to all Queens! -Queen MandaSheri
