Book Reviews of The Stepford Wives

Book Review: Interesting and Quick
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a great Filler book. It is a very fast read, and kept my attention for the most part.

The beginning was a little slow, but about halfway I couldn't put it down. It's kind of a creepy story line and makes you think about what you would do in that situation. I would recomment this book especially if you're looking for something short to pass the time.

Book Review: good weekend read.
Summary: 4 Stars

I thought the book was great. It was a good weekend read, and laugh out loud funny at times. I really enjoyed it. I have only seen the newer Stepford Wives movie, and the movie is really nothing like the book (is it ever?). They are both still very good.

Book Review: Watch the (Original) Movie Instead!
Summary: 3 Stars

I will admit that I had no idea there was a book belonging to The Stepford Wives until I stumbled across a used copy for a bit of pocket change. I fell in love with the 1975 film version and left the theater with a bad taste in my mouth after the 2004 remake (an abomination!). The original book version falls somewhere in between.

Written during the height of the second wave of feminism, Levin has an independent and "liberated" Joanne move to suburban Stepford to escape the hustle, bustle, and crime of the city. The women all appear as actors from detergent ads and when her friend Bobbi turns into one of them - Joanne gets suspicious. It's a bit of a pseudo-feminist portrayal with name dropping of Millet, Friedan, and Steinem but without a lot of feminist discourse, antics, thought - anything - to back it up.

It's a very short read, only a bit over a hundred pages and if you get the opportunity it's a decent page turner. But if you find yourself with an afternoon to kill I more highly suggest renting the 1975 classic and getting yourself a bowl of popcorn.

Book Review: The future housewives
Summary: 3 Stars

The book is very particular, it is a suspense story. It is an interesting idea to write about the life of a family, of a wife, who lived in a city and then went to a small village. All is new in Stepford, the work, the school, the surroundings, but above all the wives in the town. The crucial difference is the housework, the women in Stepford do nothing but clean the house, look after the children and cook for their husband.
Sometimes it is a bit difficult to understand the story as there are unknown words in some parts. The end is strange there is not a real end, the story is somehow chopped off.

Book Review: The ending is unbelievable!
Summary: 3 Stars

We read the ?Stepford wives" in English class. I really liked it!
Joanna, a very nice and brave woman who tries to fight against the Men's Association from Stepford, and even tries to fight against her own husband - just to live her life and to keep her own identity.
I found the book good. I read it twice. But the end of the book was unbelievable, because I thought the book had a happy ending, but it did not turn out that way!!
The book was really easy to understand.
