Book Reviews of The Space Between Us: A Novel (P.S.)

Book Review: Positively Wonderful
Summary: 5 Stars

Racism, cultural differences/disparities, relationships, tradition and of course the chasms between people-particularly painful when these people live in the same household.

Thoughtful, selective, evocative use of words-as in that's exactly what it feels like-ooh that hurts.

Ms. Umrigar is a wonderfully gifted writer-I just wish she wrote more!!

Book Review: Recommended
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great captivating story of class, friendship, family, honour and women in India. I found the characters to be realistic and it was really good to alternate between each point of view. I don't want to give away the ending, but the book overall teaches a great lesson about class and how deeply they are entrenched in even today's India. Recommended.

Book Review: My New Favorite Novelist
Summary: 5 Stars

After reading this book, I was hungry for more Umrigar; she's an amazing storyteller! This novel was a compelling read. I've recommended it to friends and family who now concur that it's a great book. I loved the relationship between Bhima and Sera, and my heart broke for Bhima as she tried tirelessly to help her pregnant granddaughter Maya. An overall great read!

Book Review: Best book I read in 2007
Summary: 5 Stars

From the first page, I was hooked and couldn't put it down. The story is so well written, you fall in love with certain characters and grow to hate others, the plot takes turns you don't see coming and the language is filled with incredible depth. At one point towards the end, I put the book down and yelled out loud. It was a pleasure to read.

Book Review: Beautifuly Written, Tugs at the heart
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is a thoughtful, emotional chronicle of two diametrically opposed lives who are linked together as Servant and Mistress. The book is full of raw emotions, which are written so well that at times my heart ached for the characters. It is unabashedly honest, at times quite sad, but above all it is a beautifully written book!
