Book Review: Good advice..... Summary: 4 Stars
I heard about this book when it was first released but never spent the money on a purchase. I just happen to see the latest edition in the library and checked it out. To my surprise, her recommendations did make a difference for my skin type (dry, sensitive, non-pigmented, wrinkled) via the 1st day of applying her recommended products. I'm 37 years old and, like any 37 year old, have started to experience the unavoidable wrinkles on the forehead, sunspots from overexposure to the sun, etc. The products she recommends for your skin type will not make you look 10 years younger, but I have to say that if you choose wisely and follow her recommendations, your skin will noticably look and feel at least 3-5 years younger and healthier. I began with her least expensive recommendations and experimented and moved on from there. Your wrinkles, dry skin, etc. will not completely disappear like magic, but you will learn how to properly care for your skin type as well as how to adapt to your skin's changes during the seasons (i.e. more dry skin in the winter, inflammation of the skin in the summer, etc.). This book is a great starting platform with many great recommendations, specifically for us "older" women (or men).:0)
Book Review: Good info, but not well organized..... Summary: 4 Stars
I have read over and researched this book quite thoroughly. I will say that the information in it is very good pertaining to the suggestions for each skin type and solutions. I will have to criticize however, that the information is not consistent from one skin type to the next, meaning that once you go from the beginning of the Dry skin types to the end, the last Dry skin type is lacking much of the information that would have been given for the first listed Dry skin type, meaning it is almost incomplete. The info fizzles toward the ends of the Dry and Oily types. This book is difficult to organize in your mind because in order to learn about your skin type, you basically have to read about 8 types in order to get the full information. Heed caution that you do not just read the one section about your type, you will be missing alot of info..... I think that this book was tossed together quickly and almost carelessly in the matter of organization. The information is there, but you must dig deeper!
Book Review: Great Resource, Could Use Updating Summary: 4 Stars
A co-worker recommended this book to me after we discussed skin issues. I've found the advice useful, and the writing interesting. The book looks huge and overwhelming at first, but realize that while you can read the whole thing, you truly only need to read the first few chapters and then the ones specific to your skin type.
The only caveat is that the recommended products need to be updated. I'm just getting started trying to follow her recommendations, but some of the products I've looked up have been discontinued or replaced by another product. While it's nice to have this quick reference, however, Baumann does include a list of ingredients to use and to avoid per skin type. This can be used to research any products you're interested in, whether it's on her recommendation list or not. So, updates or no, I'd rather have the book than not at all.
Book Review: Dr Baumann's Book Summary: 4 Stars
I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5 because I found this book a bit confusing. When I took the test, the skin type was incorrect. I discovered this by reading the descriptions of all oily types and discovered that I was actually a different type than the test showed. It's not so cut and dried as one would think. Oily skin is a bit more complicated than dry skin. IMO anyway.
