Book Review: A BOOK THAT WILL BE HARD TO FORGET!!
Summary: 5 Stars
I just finished reading this author's debut book and was unsure about reading something written by an unknown but it has got to be one of my favorite books. Now my wife is reading it and is hooked. It is short enough so that it doesn't waste anytime on boring details that are not needed yet it contains all the crucial aspects of this very significant day in history. After reading the book it mnade me want to go to Normandy with my own family. I also liked the many genres the book offered. On top of the history in Hill's book he offers you everything you need to know about a perfect visit to this battleground, he places humor where it is appropriate and what I greatly enjoyed was the Epilogue and Prologues. These are fictitious and relate to a characted Hill created but one based on one of the verterans fighting in the war. To sum it up - my wife has already said what her father is getting for Fathers Day!
Summary of The Shortest Day
Three generations take one "short" day to visit Normandy. For soldiers June 6, 1944 was the longest day of their lives. Years later when Tyler Hill visited Normandy, he felt like for him, it was the shortest day. In this book Tyler hopes to persuade people to honor the soldiers by spending one short day in this inspiring place. What made Tyler's trip special was his grandparents going. His grandfather had wanted to see Normandy his entire life. Knowing he was alive on this date and seeing his reaction to coming here, Tyler had to write this book. While the area's top guide took them to the sites, Tyler was busy taking thorough notes. This book is a compilation of those notes and what the day meant to Tyler, whose generation has fortunately not lived through a day this brutal. The book opens with a fictitious story of a WW II veteran telling a class of h.s. students about the invasion he fought in.Historical Books
