Book Reviews of The Seventeen Traditions

Book Review: An interesting glimpse into the background of an incredibly influential man.
Summary: 5 Stars

This memoir of Nader's early life gives the reader insight into what ideals were present in his home and community which helped mold the man which has had such a great impact on the lives of Americans in the twentieth century. The book is also visually pleasing. Its appearance is whimsical, taking the reader back to the simpler times of his youth. As a seventh grade teacher I would recommend this book to students and parents alike. These traditions passed on by his parents are based on universal truth. There is no political agenda. Republican, Democrat, Independent, etc. can learn from this book. Nader's words transcend the complexities of politics. These are stories that inspire and help the reader understand how Nader became the man we know today, the most important private citizen of the twentieth century.

Book Review: Looking Back - Moving Forward
Summary: 5 Stars

Relax and take time to read this thoughtful inspiring autobiography. It will make you think about your own life, your own special gifts, and encourage you to reach out and help others in your community.

The Nader family is remarkable and Ralph shares much of what he learned in the form of seventeen traditions. All of us can appreciate these lessons. I particularly loved the proverbs!

This small book with easy to read print is perfect for gift giving. New parents will be inspired and grateful. The last sentence in the book is: "If today's parents are to fulfill their acknowledged desire to leave each generation stronger and healthier than its predecessorm, cultivating these transcendent family traditions is a good place to begin." I agree!

Book Review: Listen, Think Independently, Practice Civic Awareness
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a wonderful book. The words are wise, the drawings throughout the book are warm and richly detailed. It is a quick read yet it is one of those books you find yourself mentioning and quoting to other people.

It would make a great graduation gift as guidelines on living a good life or a gift for those in the Greatest Generation as they remember back when family life and community were the anchors to build on.

"Who is more foolish, I wondered-the core group of committed voters and taxpayers who engage in the process, or the much larger number who habitually abstain from town affairs, leaving their interests to be decided by others?"

Book Review: Someone to admire.
Summary: 5 Stars

I just went to see Ralph Nader and have been inspired beyond measure. He talked about his parents, this book and then answered scores of audience questions. His attitude is humble. his explanations simple and understandable, his solutions are fair, well-researched and global. He is truly one of the most influential and motivational muses of our age. He is very well-known and admired by activists overseas who crave democracy.

I was handed this book as I walked into the auditorium. Donated by Traditions Bookstore in Olympia, WA. I looked inside. It is signed by Ralph Nader. "For the children, Ralph Nader" I cannot think of selling it. I love that man. Diane

Book Review: Better days, renewed possibilities
Summary: 5 Stars

Family and civic culture that is refreshing, basic, simple, important -- and largely disappeared. Family, community, and teaching by example and participation before greedy 'me' generation individualism when pleasure was being part of community and world beyond just yourself. It seems all too distant and foreign but should not be. This is a book to restore values, inspire young families, and shame an older generation that has lost its principles. You will get a chuckle or two such as the description of the author's mother and her confrontation with GW's grandfather. Get it, share it, circulate it widely. (It took ne less than a day to read.)
