Book Reviews of The Secret

Book Review: Great Energy Vibrations
Summary: 5 Stars

I think some people are getting the wrong idea. If you assume that by just wishing for something with no action behind it is the secret, you are absolutely right. It's the secret to absolute failure. However, I do not believe that this was the message here. I compare the universe to the basic operation of a computer. When we boot up, our C drive spins with all the information it has available to us. Picture this as the universe. Then we download a specific program {Word or Photo Shop etc.) to facilitate whatever we need to do. All the data in the C drive is spinning and accessible to us, but the specific program selects and only picks what it wants and places it on the screen. Picture this as our intentions, our wishes, or our mental visualizations selecting and picking out from the universe the manifestations we desire in our lives. However, and this is the key, like the program on our computer screen, it will not write that Pulitzer Prize winning novel or edit that award winning photograph for you. Nevertheless, it will give you all the tools and options like the universe. Once it has our intentions it will give us the ideas, opportunities and the means to attain whatever it is we wish to actualize. But we are the ones that have to bring our ideas to light, seize the opportunities that are presented to us and utilize the means that the universe provides us to employ. This is the secret!

Is it new? Absolutely not. Deepak Chopra said it a thousand times already in his "Seven Spiritual Laws of Success," and his many other books and audios. Viktor Frankl (Author/Psychiatrist) said that the only reason he survive the Nazi death camps was his belief and conviction that he would live to tell the tale. Rumi and Gandhi professed it and please lets not forget Jesus, "Ask and it will be given you" and "What you truly believe will come to pass."

The car and bicycle scene was a little over the top. However, was it presented in a new and impressive way? Did it keep my attention? Did it add a new twist, touch or nuance to this old secret? Yes! Yes! And Yes! Personally, I can't get enough of this stuff!

Book Review: I wish I had known about "The Secret" years ago!
Summary: 5 Stars

Almost a year ago I read this book after seeing Rhonda Byrne on Oprah. If you're the type of person who is receptive to change and open to ideas other than your own, maybe it can do for you what it has done for me? I'm not wealthy yet, but I have more money than I've ever had before and I'm the happiest I've ever been! People respond to kindness, love, my positive outlook, and my happiness--all things that knowing and applying the Law of Attraction have brought to my life.

I read the book first and loved it. Then I watched the DVD and it gave me a chance to further anchor the ideas and to see the teachers who are in the book. Seeing them and hearing their voices helped me remember and apply what I had learned in the book.

Some people are too critical and too hard on this book. What's wrong with thinking love instead of hate, abundance instead of lack, and working proactively instead of being against everything? The people who react so negatively to the concepts in this book are precisely the people who need it the most! The information in the book is only as good as the effort you use to apply it. If you're skeptical and critical, sure--it isn't going to work for you--only against you!

Rhonda Byrne comes right out and lists many of the people through the ages who knew "The Secret" which is really the Law of Attraction. She never maintains that "The Secret" is something she invented or made up. The Law of Attraction has biblical origins. The reason it's called "The Secret" isn't because it is the "shhhh!" kind of secret, but because the Law of Attraction is the secret to living happily and with an abundance of good things of many kinds.

I know the concept of the Law of Attraction seems hard to believe, but I've seen it work good and bad ways in my own life. Now that I know how to use the law, I'm living a much richer life in so many ways! My coworkers have responded warmly to me, more things go my way, and good things have come to my life. People used to call me a "worry-wort" (a long time ago!) now even my kids have noticed a change in me. My daughter said, "Mom, you're so calm now!"

Book Review: Need A Good Pep Talk? "The Secret" Can Inspire/Motivate...
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow, there's some HEAVY, INTELLECTUAL arguments going on in these reviews in regards to this book. Well, I'm just an average person with limited education, but I have personal experience with the "teachings" of "The Secret", and so I will share this with you.

If you want to know the extent of my sufferings before I received "The Secret (Extended Edition)" as a gift, you can read my blog titled A Mess..."The Secret".

Now I have to say, I did not "read this book" I watched the DVD aforementioned. I do have the "book" in my possession which I use as a "visual" reference (sometimes scan the pages) to remind myself to be proactive when dealing with my life issues.

I prefer the DVD as I am a Visual/Audio learner, and it did help me to start analyzing my life in a more direct manner in order to regain control. However; that was just the start of a chain reaction that has been taking place.

After viewing the DVD, I started focusing on the most crucial areas of my life that needed fixing. Deciding that my physical health needed to be my first priority, I began researching different home remedies and fitness programs that might help me reach my goals. This was always difficult for me, perhaps partly due to the fact that I am by nature, "A Pessimist". As such, I am not quick to "take risks", or try new or unfamiliar things without the fear of it being a waste of time, or attached to some gimmick or fraudulent activity. I believe; this way of living has been inhibiting me from taking necessary steps to progress in many different aspects, "The Secret" has me viewing things with the focus on how to achieve my goals.

I can't attest to the scientific accuracy of what is impressed upon in "The Secret", but can certainly attest to the fact that it has motivated me in a way that no one or other resource has been able to do in the past 20+ years. I am healthier because of my change in the way I am dealing with my physical issues and other matters, and credit "The Secret" at least partly, for this revilation.

Book Review: Believe and achieve...A life changing book!
Summary: 5 Stars

"The Secret" is a precious gem to all those who read the book or watch the DVD. Reading through the pages and following the suggestions will cause a dramatic change in one's life. So many times we think we have no control over situations. "The Secret" dispels that myth. According to the Laws of Attraction, we do have control over certain events, etc., that come our way. Through the power of thought to transform and heal we can make positive changes in our lives. The "secret" has always been a law of the universe. Many people didn't realize its ultimate power.

Studies have shown that athletes who visualize succeeding in events and competitions have a greater victorious outcome than those who don't apply this law of nature. What we think and believe in our minds we can achieve. This is a law of the universe. I've used this principle for many years in my life and the results have been astounding.

I think this book will be a boon to those who are battling diseases, competing in sports events, improving self-image, losing weight, and particularly for anyone who is reaching for a specific goal in life. It's a supportive book for young people as well who are struggling with despair, depression, or anxiety. It's more than a panacea. It's real...and will help change your life! The image or outcome we focus on in our minds can certainly become a reality. Today, so many people don't believe in their power to succeed. Many give up too quickly. This book will help change their attitude. By focusing on the "desired" results causes positive changes in the brain.

Just when you think all hope is lost, you can help turn your life around by the information in this book. I highly recommend "The Secret," and see how it transforms "your" life. I know it transformed mine.

Book Review: One of the absolute best self-help/inspirational books
Summary: 5 Stars

I really enjoyed this book as it came to me that the right time. I don't think it's for everyone at all times. A person has to be willing to receive the information at the time that they read it to be able to have it be life changing.

That said, I have never recommended a book more often. It is exceedingly straight forward in how to change your mental view. I have applied it and found it to be very true.

I do believe that most are afraid to believe that they are in control of their own destiny. For those, who read this of that mind set, you will often get feedback that focuses on how "materialist" this book is. They might site examples of how The Secret has failed them in their life.

However, the book's message is exceedingly simple. You are the master of your own reality. If you think about it, it is not so different to what is taught in most religions and philosophies. How many times has a friend come to you full of sadness, lack of confidence, etc? And while you have tried to mentor/inspire/coax them to emotional/spiritual/mental wellness, you know that that has to come from within them.

The key to accepting the message of this book is taking it in at the right time. I would caution those that love this book and it's message to keep that in mind when suggesting it to their friends who might desperately need it.

A note though, I note that many people who have seen the DVD version tend to find "The Secret" too materialistic. Indeed, relative to the book, the DVD is a bit materialistic. It is unfortunate that the book is so much better and the DVD appears to send a message that is quite different from the author's original intent. The books on tape is completely identical to the book. If you're recommending to friends, make sure they either get the book or books on tape, as they may have similar issues with their interpretation of the DVD.
