Ken Blanchard's corny tale about a young lady named Debbie who learned what it took to be a great leader, is still a valuable & inspirational lesson for anyone to absorb. Forget the stilted format; the essense of the book is terrific.
In business, where so many horrible bosses exist making life miserable for anyone working under them; this is a refreshing & much needed dose of "Leadership 101". What makes it so appealing is the fact that it's based on simple common sense---a concept which has become anything but "simple" in recent years.
What Blanchard has so succinctly demonstrated is the truly great leaders don't let their egos get in the way; the task supersedes the individual. They know that delegating responsibility & empowering their people produces the best results. They understand that getting their people fully engaged in the task at hand is far more important than getting them whipped into shape, as if they were in boot camp.
In the end, the great leaders breed success with the right approach. In this atmosphere, nice guys most certainly finish first; not last.
