Book Reviews of The Secret Between UsBook Review: What would you do? Summary: 4 Stars
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, both the storyline (which was thought provoking) as well as the characters. What would you do under the same or similar circumstances? While I don't condone lying, I certainly empathize with the mother's decision to do so.
Book Review: thought provoking Summary: 4 Stars
I liked this book. As a parent, it made me think and rethink many things, and I was intrigued with the way the book played out. How do we ever know if we are doing the right thing?
Book Review: Looking for Barbara Summary: 3 Stars
My first Barbara Delinsky book was Lake News and I loved it. Since then I have read all of Ms. Delinsky's current "womans fiction" titles. My favorites being The Passions of Chelsea Kane and Commitments.
But her current book The Secret Between Us and her last Family Tree left me feeling unsatisfied and wanting more. I think what is missing are the strong romantic relationships that she used to create for her main characters. Saying this I must say that I am not a "hard core" romance reader. B. D. made romance part of the story but not the main focus.
The Secret Between Us was a bit slow and tedious. I found myself fustrated with the characters and disappointed by the contrived ending. Especially weird for me was the PO box in another state???
I'm looking for the return of the type of Barbara Delinsky books that I have come to love and I hope she goes back to creating characters that make me hate to come to the end of the book.
Book Review: Not Bad, but Not Great Summary: 3 Stars
THE SECRET BETWEEN US deals with the interactions of family. How far a mother will go to protect her child, how a child reacts to knowing they've done something that can never be taken back. It's not a bad story, but it wasn't as fully evolved as I would have liked it to be.
The main problem, for me, was the ending, which I saw as a total cop-out. In the end, the resolutions came too easily, and in ways that made everyone turn out to be a good guy. Life rarely works this way in real life.
This isn't Barbara Delinsky's best story, but it's still good for reading about a family who will do anything to keep itself whole.
Book Review: Too much whining Summary: 3 Stars
This book started off great. Couldn't put it down and then a bit more than half-way through I flipped ahead to see how it ended. It seemed that the whole book was just the same thing over and over. Grace being upset about what happened and her having the same conversation over and over with her mother about how miserable she was. And Deborah the same thing. Having the arguments with her Dad constantly (he was such a jerk!) and thinking about her ended marriage and concern over her daughter. It just could've been more condensed and quick.
