Book Reviews of The Scrambled States of AmericaBook Review: A Show Worth Watching! Summary: 5 Stars
Okay, call me a sucker for any book that teaches while it entertains. This book excels at both. The premise is that, in the middle of the night, the state of New York woke up from a dream and shouted to all the other states, "HEY, EVERYONE--LET'S HAVE A TALENT SHOW!" And so they did. And what a rompus, good time was had by all. There's plenty of over-the-top humor, song ditties, and corny jokes (thank you, Iowa!), but it's the illustrations that kept me enthralled. This book is so visually appealing, that I'd have turned to its pages again and again, even if it only said "BLAH, BLAH, BLAH!" I'm guessing your wee ones who can't read will find it equally addicting. Maybe you'll get lucky and overhear them making up the story themselves.
Book Review: The one to teach!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
As a teacher, it is difficult not to read this book to children. it is educational, fun, and they do remember their states after reading this book. Kids love to read it over and over.
My 8-year old son had a hard time returning this book to the library. He kept it with him for months and I had to return it after school ended so not to get "in trouble"
I do think all teachers should at least read it and use it to teach Social Studies. it is wonderful. After reading it, we made a game of finding the states and the kids loved it!!!
Book Review: Cleverly written & illustrated for kids AND parents! Summary: 5 Stars
We received this book for our son's 3rd birthday, & it quickly became one of our favorite books to read. My husband & I laugh whenever we read it, & our son is quickly catching on to the author's sense of humor, too. What's important, though, is our child knows which state he lives in & where our relatives' states are. The book is inexpensive, flat (perfect for flights & car trips!), & colorful, which makes for a superb birthday party gift. Such a great gift, in fact, we've stocked up on them!
Book Review: Great way for kids to know the states! Summary: 5 Stars
I am a grandmother who remembers way back.. when geography was important,
not only of the US, but of all countries around the globe. I can still probably tell you the capital of each country in South America, the
population, the imports and exports, and pertinent topography.
When I saw this book, I knew it was for my very bright and curious 8 year old grandson. He absolutely loves it, it is a fun and exciting way to know more about our country.
Book Review: I love Laurie Keller's books Summary: 5 Stars
I love Laurie Keller's books, especially The Scrambled States of America. She was partially my inspiration when I was writing The Little Man In the Map. The Little Man In the Map: With Clues To Remember All 50 States
Books like these can spark an interest in learning more about this wonderful country and the world.
