Book Reviews of The Savage Detectives: A NovelBook Review: You never really know where its going to take you Summary: 5 Stars
Its an awesome book that keeps you wondering whats going to happen next. The way the stories interweave and the dialogue between the characters is great. The translation was extremely fluid. Oh yeah and in case you haven't figured it out its not really a Detective novel but more like following a written documentary spanning 30 years piecing together the lives of a misfit poetry group from Mexico City.
Book Review: Savage Forever Summary: 5 Stars
If you are tired of self conscious, ironic, artificially crafted, eager to please, MFA fiction...
If you secretly or openly are dying for some writing with a spine...
If you are fully alive and afraid...
If you are almost alive (like me) and courageous enough to want to become fully alive and afraid...
If you are unafraid and a fool...
Book Review: A great book Summary: 5 Stars
It is a longish book but not really a slow read although at times a bit demanding of tbe reader. But your effort will be highly rewarded. I finished the book this summer and will take a break before taking on 2666. But I am excited about 2666 after being so highly rewarded by "The Savage Dectectives."
Also would strongly recommend his poetry. He really was a poet more than a novelist,
Book Review: Great Book Summary: 5 Stars
This is a terrific book. It took me a while to get into it -- approximately 100 pages or so -- but I'm stubborn and I like to finish a book that seems to have merit. Once I got past the first section, which sets up the "story" (I use the term loosely, as the novel isn't particularly plot-driven), I loved it. I'm really looking forward to starting 2666. Highly recommended.
Book Review: If you love Bolano... Summary: 5 Stars
... then you will love this book. I read 2666, his poetry, and several of his short novellas before reading this, so I had a very good idea of what I was getting into. The ending left me breathless. You might want to try the Skating Rink to see if you like his style before reading some of his longer books.
