Book Reviews of The Satanic BibleBook Review: Truly insightful... Summary: 5 Stars
When I first picked up this tome almost three years ago, I was a timid, weak-minded "wannabe" atheist--just like most of those sort, I wasn't exactly sure of what I believed in. I knew what wasn't, but not what was. I'll admit that upon my first reading of LaVey's diabolical doctrine, I was unsure of its validity. Even though I recognized myself as the "ideal Satanist" immediately, I thought of myself as too much of a humanist to adopt such a strong label as the dreaded "S-word". But then I started noticing the behavior of the average human. I realized that LaVey was absolutely right in that most people do not deserve to be treated kindly. I sympathized with his Satanic Statements: "Kindness to those who deserve it, instead of love wasted on ingrates!" and "Responsibility to the responsible, instead of concern for psychic vampires!" I am now proud to call myself a Satanist. If others are not intelligent enough to come to the same conclusions, then I am grateful...after all, they are not worthy of the many wondrous gifts that Doktor LaVey has given each and every one of his followers. Hail Satan!
Book Review: True Magic and Reason Exalted! Summary: 5 Stars
This book has a very special place in my life for two reasons: 1. It surprised me with it's lack of hype or madness; 2. I could almost believe, with some grammatical variation, that I had written it myself. This book made me aware that I was not "the only one who felt this way". High Priest Anton Szandor LaVey has here written a text that agrees with my own nature. I was actually in the process of cleansing the ridiculous bonds of ignorant additions from the Magical Arts when I finally read what I had previously assumed to be a fraudulent, hyped up jest. My only motivation for reading the Satanic Bible initially was purely amusement. I was both surprised and exultant to find that this work was expressing my own feelings and goals. In addition, I was surprised to find it had been written (just) before I was born! This is a text that details True Magic and Natural Religion. To authentic Witches and Warlocks it conveys that feeling of "coming home". My only regret is that I shall never meet the author personally. If Magic is what you seek - buy this book.
Book Review: A Real Eye Opener! Summary: 5 Stars
Anton LaVey effectively debunks the many absurd myths of organized religion. He proves that human nature is always complex and carnal. The Satanic Bible is probably the most accurate depiction of our collective behavior ever written. LaVey correctly asserts that we are each masters of our own destiny and not bound by redundant, repressive superstitions to achieve spiritual growth and happiness in our lives. That being said, he proves that we are therefore largely responsible for our success or failure in life and that no great redeemer will come out of the sky to save us from our own stupidity. The Satanic Bible is the most truthful book about the nature of our existence I've ever read. While it may seem depressing at times, it is nonetheless the unvarnished truth. A saddening truth is always superior to a joyful, thinly veiled lie. All in all, the Satanic Bible will awaken the sleeping wisdom in many of us, but should be avoided by those whose ego is easily crushed and those who are so weak that they need a holy crutch to make it through each day.
Book Review: Ingenius Summary: 5 Stars
I have read this many times through and have found it more profound every time I read it. Having said that you will assume that I am probably biased, but to the contrary; my first times reading this I was not interested in exploring any religion. In fact I more or less read it as to only be a Devil's advocate(no pun intended) to act out. That was now 5 years ago, so needless to say I was indulged; but as far as religious books go this is probably a little far out for most. But once you get a grasp on the idea and not some sort of stereotypical grander that the largely Christian following would like to produce about Satanism, I would like to find it thought provoking and revealing. Also it is philosophically amazing, the genuine sarcasm and creativity it took to create such a work. So before I into a much longer and most likely boring chasm about how in love with the book and the religious value in which holds I will only say that if you are eccentric enough to want to read this than it should be a very surprising experience.
Book Review: Beyond the hype is an excellent philosophy. Summary: 5 Stars
Despite what some of the propaganda-driven people will say, this is an excellent piece of literature. And allthough I found the rituals to be useless, i'm sure that there are many out there who crave that aspect of the religion to be satisfied. In essense, this is a book of the self.. leading you away from the guilt and hypocrisy of "God" and "Sin", and teaching you that human nature is OUR nature. To glorify in instinct, and worship yourself above all other things.. Not only is it life-affirming, but deeply satisfactory. For those not interested in Satanism as a faith, this is still a facinating book. It's branches into Psycology and history are interesting, and it's impossible to read through this book without being somehow changed. As a Satanist, I reccommend this with the highest praise. As a Person, I have to pity the closed-minded people who have been misled about this books intent and purpose. And as an avid reader, I endorse this as an amazing insight into a rapidly growing culture.
