Book Reviews of The Satanic Bible

Book Review: Former Satanist
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a former Satanist. I was affiliated with the Church of S.A.T.A.N. in Allentown Pennsylvania. I was also a forming member of the Order of the New Aeon in P-burg New Jersey. Today I am a believer in Jesus as Messiah, but I do not belong to any denomination. I am a Brethren and a Separatist Seeker.

I highly recommend this book to both Believers and Non-Believers. I think that it is one of the most honest books ever written about human behavior and motives. "Since man's natural instincts lead him to sin, all men are sinners; and all sinners go to hell." [LaVey pg. 47 "Some Evidence of a New Satanic Age"]

My exhortation to so-called Christians is this: Do not be afraid of this book. There are profound insights herein. And my exhortation to so-called Satanists is this: Do not confuse indulgence with compulsion. [LaVey pg. 81 "Indulgence... Not Compulsion]

As for a a brief overview of the Four Parts of the Book itself:

Part One [The Book of Satan] serves as an excellent challenge to the hypocrisy and judgmentalism of the Christian denominations. It is very humbling in its honesty.

Part Two [The Book of Lucifer] is an honest review of LaVey's own doctrine. It primarily centers around his Nine Satanic Statements.

Part Three [The Book of Belial] is a simplistic yet practical manual for Magick.

Part Four [The Book of Leviathan] is a Satanic rendition of the Enochian Keys.

Shalom - Soror Samhain

Book Review: One of my all-time favorites
Summary: 5 Stars

i am a 14-year-old who hasn't been brought up going to church or told to believe anything. therefore i didn't have a strong opinion on religion when i started reading this book.

i was immediately attracted to this book due to it's contraversial reputation. but as soon as i started reading THE SATANIC BIBLE, i realized that the contents were close to exactly how i have been thinking for my whole life. prior to purchasing this book, i had read a review for it saying that it was more philosophy than bible, and i agree with that.

i think THE SATANIC BIBLE is no doubt one of my favorite books, and has lead me to openly consider myself a Satanist because i agree with the satanic bible, not because i'm trying to cause trouble among my christian friends and whatnot.

THE SATANIC BIBLE is a good read for anyone who isn't sure on what religion they want to stand with, and are open to new ideas.

probably one of the most important things i can tell you is NOT TO BE AFRAID OF THIS BOOK. while at first i wasn't sure how intense this book would be, i soon realized that it wasn't scary, or evil, or anything like that. in fact, i found Marilyn Manson's autobiography THE LONG HARD ROAD OUT OF HELL more hardcore then THE SATANIC BIBLE.

an excellent read for people of all religions who are ready to explore what else is out there.

Book Review: Just think about it for a second...
Summary: 5 Stars

Many questioned the legitimacy of the late Anton LaVey as to whether he was full of you know what or if he actually believed what he preached. I for one believe that this man believed every word he said, which is why I chose to write a report on The Satanic Bible while I was in high school. His philosophy is what enchanted me, the entire "be your own God" passage had me clinging to every word, which helped me draw the conclusion that this was an inteligent man who had grown tired of the self conscious, oppressive belief structure we call Christianity. I will tell you now that when I gave my report on The Satanic Bible I could not believe the gasps and dirty looks in the room. I believe the reason so many people condemn this book, as well as LaVey's other works and anything else dealing with Satanism, is because they have been brainwashed all of they're lives to believe that anything outside the norm of Christianity is evil and taboo. That my friends is bigotry, as opposed to what another reviewer referred to Lavey as; the last time I checked the point of Christianity was to tolerate right? Can we say hypocritical? Anyway, I found The Satanic Bible to be an enlightening work, and I recommend it to anyone who is looking for something different. And no, I'm not a Satanist, but I will be surprised if this review is posted.

Book Review: Worthy of Reading
Summary: 5 Stars

I picked up my own copy when I was in my teens. I wanted to discover for myself what this book was all about. To my surprise I discovered that this book wasn't what the headlines said it was. Instead, I read a book which encouraged the respect of nature, and yourself. I read about theories which encourage the reader to take control of their own lives, & to be responsible for one's own actions; not looking for the escape routes that organized religions create. Most important, is that Lavey allows space for the reader. There isn't a strict dogma punishable by eternal damnation. To the contrary, Lavey encourages the reader to find his or her own system of logical self-government. There's always a great deal of anger, and distortion emminated from many people regarding this book. There are several people who are "anti" Lavey for various reasons, but the Satanic Bible, it's ideas, and logic, will always remain. Read it, and draw your own conclusions and ideas from its texts. The worste consequence one could look forward to recieving from this book is the increasing of one's own awareness, and sense of self. This book and it's ideas are not for everyone. "Everyone" would seem to correlate with "average", and this book is neither average, nor written for the like.

Book Review: I own this book, praise to Anton
Summary: 5 Stars

I own The Satanic Bible. I bought it in 1994, and have followed the philosophy/religiuos teachings of Anton Szander LaVey ever since. I love this book, and all that it says. All I had to do is read the first few sentences in the introduction, and I became so intrigued by it, that I couldn't put the book down, I brought it to school with me and read during classes. What I read described all that I believed in the first place. And it introduced ritual magic to me. It's not written in some retarded language that you can't understand, it's written in modern day English. Aall that it's taught me, nothing else could. I used to be Catholic, and it made no sense and I found that Catholics are generally greedy, so I decided to not be Catholic. Then I stumbled upon this book in a local book store and found myself and my religion & philosophy. I highly recomend this book to all that want a clearer understanding of modern Satanism, want to become satanic, or are just looking for a good read. I can't say enough good things about Anton or the Satanic Bible, my love goes out to Anton and his family. This book has really changed my life ~ for the better. : ) Again praise to Anton, the CoS members, and to all that deserve it. Love and Life to you -- Nicole
