Book Reviews of The Road to Wellville

Book Review: The Evils of kinked colons. The benifits of Organic Grace.
Summary: 5 Stars

The Road to Wellville is an amusing story of people in search of Organic Grace. These people believe that they suffer from the visceral accumulation of toxic sludge brought on by years of improper diet. Since the rigors of eating were never mastered better than by the great Cleansed Colon himself, Dr. Kellogg, they follow his ever command. They scour their colons, blast out their bowels, purge their way to purity--yet, despite the daily intrusions to their lower orifices', they still end up digging their own graves with their teeth.

Told with unrelenting satire, The Road to Wellville is the story of an original Health Nut and all his pampered followers. Provides great insights into the Fad that still drains wallets today.

Book Review: Laughfest...
Summary: 5 Stars

To read a novel and be interupted by your own fits of laughter means a good read to me.
The Road to Wellville is one of the funniest novels I have had the pleasure of enjoying.
T C Boyle is brilliant. This author does the math, I mean the research...then spins his creative magic into pure gold.
I find myself thinking about his made up characters blended with the real characters in The Road to Wellville thinking they are ALL the real deal, the sign of success in the fictional world.
As a recent fan of Boyle's darkly humorous work I already know I won't ever be able to get enough of the stuff...keep 'em coming TC!

Book Review: Near Perfect Crazy and Corny HealthFood Odyssey!
Summary: 5 Stars

First, TC Boyle has to be about the funniest, and most laughably bizarre authors out there. This account of the beginnings of a true American turn of the last century business success is as jumpy as some of the popping cereal that we consume today, over a century later. It is also a nifty time travel with all the inventions, crackpots, and quackeries so prevalent then. And the people are just as quirky. My only complaint is the scatological parts, mainly at the end, but if you don't mind that, then pick up this book for fun and laughs you'll remember years after you read this! (And I read it about 7 years ago!)

Book Review: More Butts!
Summary: 5 Stars

A satire of cornflakes and chimpanzees, "Wellville" flushes out all the waste around health, fitness, wholesome food, and other stuff your mother tried to encourage.

A positively grade-school fascination with body parts and the things they do fuels this romp through the Mid-West. Salt it with some misguided radiation therapy, philandering, and the occasional misapplication of electricity, and it keeps you wondering what comes next.

If you're a member at a gym, or exercise regularly, or wish you did, or laugh at those who do while snarfing potato chips, check this one out.

Book Review: If Dickens Were a Smartass
Summary: 5 Stars

The jovial tone of this dark and wicked novel is winning. This is a wonderful read and very very funny. The comic style and the high jinks are tempered by the dark and ernst illumination of our contemporary non-smoking non-fat health craze, but my god, who knew it'd be so facinating and weird and true? If you liked the movie, this is ten times better. If you didn't, it's a hundred times better. Bizarre and always entertaing, Boyle is one of our greatest living authors.
