Book Reviews of The Revolution: A ManifestoBook Review: One for the Ages Summary: 5 Stars
My original intent was to purchase this book, read it, and then loan it out liberally to all my friends and relatives who have snickered whenever I have mentioned his name, and referred to him as a fringe crackpot.
After reading it however, I have changed my mind and will not be loaning it out liberally after all. Mainly because I refuse to part with it and risk its non-return. Instead, I am going to buy a copy for these friends and relatives because this book is simply too important and too much of an accurate documentation as to what has gone wrong in this country for the past 100 years for anyone to commit to temporary use.
Simply put, this is the most cut and dry, un-media influenced description of Ron Paul's stands on the issues, and as far as I'm concerned, the good Dr. is dead-on correct with pretty much every point he makes. Issues that I may not have agreed with him before at least have made me sit back and say to myself, "he has a point."
My problem has always been that I am ineffective as a debator of ideas. I have tried to argue Ron Paul's points, but end up backing out in frustration when words like "crackpot policies" and "isolationist" start flying around. It's not that I second guess my beliefs, but I simply lose the inclination to try and further express my ideals with people who simply don't wish to listen.
This book is amazing in that respect. Like him or not, I highly doubt that you can make it 4 or 5 pages into this without becoming completely hooked. And whether or not you agree with him, you simply must say to yourself, "He has a point." and then wonder why these ideas are so far from the mainstream discussion.
This is a short, power packed book. It is not filled with congressional speeches and other minutiae that bog down the readers spirit. No, conversely it is a page turner that you can easily read start to finish on a quiet afternoon, and be left wanting more.
I can recommend no better book than this if you want to discover why America, as great as it is, often seems to place its bets on the wrong horse...continually...time after time. If you dont read it for yourself, at least consider reading it for future generations who will inherit our irrepairable messes if we don't wake up soon to reality.
Book Review: EVERY American needs to read this book Summary: 5 Stars
Ron Paul knows the Constitution and tells us in "The Revolution: A Manifesto" exactly how the current government is contradicting the founding document of America. Paul goes over numerous vital examples of how the federal government is overstepping its duty and in fact committing crimes against Americans by failing to stick to what the founders intended for the institution. The ideas described in this book must proliferate if we're to hang on to the fraction of liberty we have left.
First up is the controversial war in Iraq, which has cost us thousands of lives and hundreds of millions of dollars a day. Paul has rejected the war from the start and now wants to see an end to the imperialism that creates such wars. In "Revolution", Paul consistently goes back to the founders to show that they never intended the federal government to be the world's policemen.
Next is the welfare state. Paul shows convincingly the paradox of government programs that gets more money for failing to do what they were designed to do. Freedom from regulation and the nanny state has helped reduce poverty in India and China since the '70s but the US poverty rate has stagnated since the 'War on Poverty' was declared in 1968 with a slew of government welfare programs, Paul reports.
Paul then goes over other ways the federal government harms its constituents as in the drug war, the Patriot Act, and much more important, the Fed's tinkering with the economy through inflation and debt. Much of this information is already clearly elucidated in the popular media, but it seems most people have just thrown their hands up and accepted it as the way things are. Ron Paul intends to shake up the status quo and wake people up to the issues we confront with a leviathan that will continue to erode the rock of freedom on which it stands. Paul intends to make popular once again the idea of liberty before it's too late. His message is clear: stop regulating us; stop spying on us; and stop taking our money!
Though the book isn't expertly written or especially thorough, every American should read it and contemplate the core ideas. We could be on the brink of a monumental shift toward greater liberty--"The Revolution" can be considered the catalyst.
Book Review: This book will "revolution"ize your view of government Summary: 5 Stars
This book is absolutely superb on many levels. If you want to know what's REALLY wrong with this country and what to do about it, this is the book for you. Dr. Paul shows that, in the words of Ronald Reagan, "Government is not a solution to our problem, government is the problem."
This book goes well beyond the usual campaign book, which Dr. Paul says usually get (and deserve) a short shelf life, to becoming a modern-day classic that deals with the most important problems of government in our time. He clearly and concisely spelled out the case for limited Constitutional government and a non-interventionist foreign policy as a solution to these problems. This modern-day classic is a must-read for anyone who wants to be informed about government. You will frequently be shocked at how you've been deceived by the statist elite. Here are just a few samples of the topics covered:
- How little actual difference there is between the two major parties. I found this chapter a little depressing, mostly because it's true; they are both essentially advocating different versions of "politics as usual."
- How greedy individuals and businessesmen use the government to plunder the rest of us and cloak their agenda in rhetoric about the "good of society." Dr. Paul points out that this behavior isn't limited to the poor, like many other conservatives seem to think - the rich are doing it too.
- How a private banking cartel (the Federal Reserve Bank) severely damages the economy and allows the government to live way beyond its means.
- Why a return to the gold standard, although much reviled by the statist elite (who have a vested interest in opposing it because it's easier to inflate under the paper standard), would be one of the best things that's happened to the economy in a long time.
- How the Founding Fathers held to a non-interventionist foreign policy - and why we should listen to them today.
This important book is a welcome corrective to the nonsense from neocons (who aren't conservatives at all - the only difference between them and the liberals is what kind of big government they advocate) and liberals (i.e. socialists) alike, and this country would be better off if we took Dr. Paul's advice.
Book Review: A Blueprint for Real Change Summary: 5 Stars
It's not the "change" Obama has been peddling for the last year, which will no doubt result in more of the same: More wars, more government interventions overseas and at home, and a continuation of our descent into a full-fledged police state.
Dr. Paul's prescription is desperately needed, and he spells it out plainly and coherently in this short but informative book. In short, we must revert to what our founders bequeathed to us: a constitutional republic, where the individual is sovereign and the government is the servant, not the master. Its powers are enumerated, and thus limited. Dr. Paul contrasts what was intended with what we have today, and the results are not pretty.
The welfare state? It must end, but he recognizes that it cannot happen overnight. The entightlement programs are not sustainable. Those who have become dependent need to be weaned off. The younger generations should be able to opt out. Being forced to pay for the lifestyle of others is tyrannical and is incompatible with a free society. You won't hear this message from Hillary, Obama or McCain.
The warfare state? It is an albatross that weakens us militarily and financially, and has made us less safe. Our foreign policy is the terrorist's most effective recruiting tool! We've allowed ourselves to become an empire, and a bullying one at that. All empires end. Paul asks us if we'd rather end it on our own terms or have it done for us through an economic collapse.
The least understood plank in his blueprint is that of monetary policy. He explains in layman terms how the Federal Reserve creates credit, devalues our currency, induces asset bubbles, and how all of this robs us of our wealth for the benefit of a select few. If you can read this chapter and not become enraged at how the bankers and politicians are literally ripping us off, you need to have your pulse checked.
Buy this book. Read it. Order extra copies for friends and family. Spread the word. Our country is running out of time to do something before the house of cards comes tumbling down.
Book Review: Last Bastion of Hope? Summary: 5 Stars
I believe the only reason Ron Paul has not been assassinated to date is because he has not become a big enough threat to the powers that be.
From his new book, The Revolution: A Manifesto...
"This much is true: you have been lied to, robbed, and used by your own government - the people you elected into office and the people you should be able to trust."
What Ron Paul doesn't tell us, of course, is that the people elected to office are not the power behind the thrown. Politics is a game, and it's played at our expense. So long as each citizen follows along with eyes closed, concerned about his or her own petty world, ignoring the larger arena in which we all suffer, there can be no revolution. And at this point in the game, without a revolution, freedom cannot survive.
This is the urgent message to America... that freedom is not FREE but must be won... and won before it's too late. Beyond a certain point in the game, only internal revolution will work. We are now at that point.
America will not see the likes of Ron Paul in future elections unless the powers that be are broken. These power heads do not suffer truth bearers lightly, something America should have learned from the assassination of JFK.
Ron Paul, speaking truthfully on the economy, terrorism, foreign policy, the war on drugs, the housing bubble, the Federal Reserve, civil liberties, and everything else in between, may be the last bastion of hope available to a nation whose people wallow in ignorance of the juggernaut that swiftly races to crush them.
I urge you to get a copy of this book. Forewarned is forearmed. Take advantage of the reading list at the back of the book; learn the truth of Ron Paul's assertions. And if it's not too late already, take up the cause of freedom.
