Book Reviews of The Revolution: A Manifesto

Book Review: The Work of a Statesman
Summary: 5 Stars

All he does is tell the truth, and in so doing forms a blistering assault on the charade that our political system has become. Ron Paul is that rarest thing - a political figure possessing a coherent core philosophy that he understands, can exposit and explain clearly, and sticks to with utmost fidelity. In short, Ron Paul is a true statesman. Andrew Napolitano is right to call him the Thomas Jefferson of our day. His political philosophy is the one our nation was founded upon and the one which used to demarcate the Right from the Left in this country so many years ago. Traditional conservatives like John T. Flynn, Garet Garett, Henry Hazlitt, Robert Taft, and even Russell Kirk, were its champions in the 20th century. These days, sadly, the Right in general and the Republican Party in particular are very nearly indistinguishable from their worst counterparts on the Left: chock full of sloganeering mountebanks and ambitious lovers of state (remember when conservatives were distrustful of government? Not so the crop of neocons and militarists that plague us now). Paul pulls back the curtain and exposes their intellectual and moral bankruptcy. The same sort of mindless partisan lock step that once drove more thoughtful souls like Albert Jay Nock and Garet Garrett to make common cause with those from the "other side" such as Charles Beard and Harry Elmer Barnes, is today responsible for the coming together of a dizzying coalition of people from vastly different backgrounds who have simply had their fill of the status quo. As Paul reminds us, freedom unites people rather than dividing them.

Paul makes his case for a return to original principles with eloquence and an abundance of historical references. It is downright laughable to imagine any of the typical candidates from the party machines trying to write anything like this. I doubt if a single one of them would recognize the names Bastiat, Cobden, or Mises.

This is a short book, almost a pamphlet in the old fashioned sense, yet there is an extraordinary amount of wisdom within. It manages to touch on virtually everything important and the fundamental truths it contains can ignite a revolution as Thomas Paine once did with his little firestarter. Nothing like this has been written in a long time (besides the obvious similarity to Goldwater's 1960 manifesto I'm reminded of Flynn's "Decline of the American Republic", 1955) and nothing is more desperately needed today. May the ideas that Ron Paul has launched back into the light spread like wildfire, and let us begin to repair the damage done to the fabric of America before it's too late. Thank heaven for a man like Ron Paul.

Book Review: A Manifesto for his candidacy and a better way
Summary: 5 Stars

There is not much I can really add to what has already been said in the reviews. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I will not try to indicate otherwise, but I am a Ron Paul supporter and I voted for him in the primary. I think this book was the best case that could be made for Ron Paul's candidacy for President. The man is not very well spoken, but he is intelligent. Ron Paul is no doubt a throwback politician. A throwback to the time when an American politician was not so much a politic as he was an advocate for personal liberty, the Constitution and republican government.

Unfortunately Ron Paul was not the youngest, well-spoken or handsome candidate for Republicans--which is more important to the media and most voters these days. (Neither is John McCain, but that is another issue) He was marginalized by the mainstream of the Republican party. A republican party, I might add that I am embarassed to be associated with because it has deviated so far from its origin. He was no media darling as you may well know. He didn't get the most PAC money or behind the scenes support from the RNC.

Nevertheless, the little candidate that could reached out and voiced his opinions, reasons and vision for what America should and can be: a sovereign republic based on individual liberty. He inspired many and found a groundswell of grassroots support. The support of his candidacy was zealous and enduring. It has not ended with his bid for the presidency, however it lives on through his message which was presented didactically in this manifesto. I guarantee that you will read things in this book that seem like total common sense and you will ask yourself why politicians haven't thought of any of these solutions before. You will ask yourself, where has this common sense been all my life and how does everyone miss this? Is the American electorate that misinformed?

I think this book is very important in that it is NOT a book written by a politician based on his future hopes or his past achievements (or exploits), rather it is meant to show Americans that there is another way; a better way. Ron Paul wrote this book so Americans can read what he has to say and look beyond the media's manipulative yoke.

I recommend this book to the voters who vote on party lines year after year into unsatisfactory perpetuity. I recommend this book for the people that have become so apethetic, disgusted, disengaged, with the 2008 election, the war, politics, taxes, or government in general. I recommend this book to anyone who cares about the true meaning of American liberty, this country's future, and a better way of life.

Book Review: The Most Intelligent Presidential Candidate of Modern Times
Summary: 5 Stars

The Most Intelligent Presidential Candidate of Modern Times. This book proves it.

You may have heard of Congressman Ron Paul. You may have heard people mention things about him. You may have heard him briefly speak in some of the Republican debates or on interviews. You may have read about him in an article or blog. You may disagree with his beliefs. You may be a Ron Paul supporter. Regardless of how much you know or don't know about Ron Paul's ideology, this book is for you. This book is a must-read for everyone.

First, I want to make one thing clear. This book is not about Ron Paul. This book is about an ideology. It is about a way of thinking. You're not going to find any stories from his childhood. You're not going to find any war stories from his military career. This book is about all of the most important issues that Americans are facing today. He goes into detail about issues such as Foreign policy, the economy, civil liberties, etc.

You may have heard him speak briefly on these issues. Some of his beliefs may shock you. You may have heard him say that he wants to do away with the IRS and the Federal Reserve. Many people who are accustomed to living with the Federal Reserve and IRS their entire lives may think this sounds crazy. I have to admit, when I first heard Ron Paul speak about some of these issues, I initially thought that some of these things were impossible or even crazy. When you become accustomed to living your entire life with something, you begin to think it is a necessity. When you hear these ideas in a 40 second clip or in a 3 minute statement on TV, it may sound crazy because you don't really understand how these different parts of our government function. Ron Paul describes in detail, exactly how our current policies work. He explains how these policies affect our lives, our country, and our world. He explains how they can be changed and why it would benefit Americans and the world to change them.

That is why this book is for everyone.

If you are already a Ron Paul supporter, it will give you a greater understanding behind his beliefs.

If you don't like Ron Paul, or think he has crazy ideas. This book will shed some light on things.

If you are unhappy with where our country is heading, but don't know what to do about it. This book is definitely for you.

If you are a person who believes in democracy, regardless of your beliefs or political affiliation, you should definitely welcome the message that Congressman Paul delivers in this manifesto.

Book Review: What a great book
Summary: 5 Stars

Boy was I excited to read this book. I have been a huge fan of Ron Paul's message and have done my best to try and spread the word. Before our primaries here in Utah I actually went out door to door handing out "slim jims" telling people all about him. Ron Paul did end up coming second in my area but it was overwhelmingly Mitt Romney that won the day. Only to then have him quit and everyone's votes be "wasted". . . the very argument people used with me as to say why they wouldn't vote for Ron Paul. Grr.

Anyway the book came and I have been lucky to have the time to read it. Its very short but packed full of really great information. I can't say I read anything new that I hadn't heard before from videos on YouTube and all the other websites out there about him but it is awesome to be able to sit and read his message in a format that isn't a pitch or accompanied by cheesy music or screaming crowds. Its just you there being taught by Dr. Paul himself saying exactly what he wants to say with all the time in the world to say it.

There were some things I wasn't 100% sure of. Especially towards the end when he goes into explaining how the Federal Reserve works and why it causes "bubbles" in our economy. Its all pretty complex stuff. But this book does a great job of peeling back the mystery and exposing the problems our economy and country are facing if we don't change. Not change as in. . . cutting back on earmark spending. As the book tells it. . . that will help with the .005% of the problem. . . what about the 99.995%!?!

I highly HIGHLY recommend everyone read this book. Ron Paul's message sings to me. I think I got very discouraged when I went to our local Ron Paul meetup group. Every one of the members believed that 9/11 was an inside job and that the government has the ability and desire to spy on every move I make. Individual freedom is important, the George Bush administration has stomped all over our individual freedoms and rights to privacy but I draw the line there. I won't ever dig a bomb shelter for my family or start using 40 bit encryption on all my e-mail correspondence.

What I WILL do however is support Ron Paul and his message any way I can. Its sound, encouraging and perfectly in-line with my personal beliefs about everyone's need to learn and build our own character without someone telling us how to run our lives. I do hope the Ron Paul revolution continues, that our leaders listen and that we will one day have a President and Government that we can all be proud of.

Book Review: Chicano 15yr Says Ron Paul is the Savior of Liberty!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm a 15 year-old American of Mexican descent who just received this book late yesterday afternoon after returning from an appointment with my orthodontist, and despite the fact that I had just gotten my braces removed, which is cause for intense celebration for any teen, I just couldn't stop ravenously devouring this book. In between chapters I would rise from my solitude of reading to go announce to the whole of my family that this book changed my political loyalties, and I am a highly political 15yr old, filled me with an intense disgust of our current government, inspired me with real hope in what can and should change in America, and gave my life a firm direction, to campaign for the cause of liberty in all of her forms. I've never written a review of a book, most just haven't inspired me to do so, but this book, I say again, CHANGED MY LIFE, quite literally, and it's only been 12 hours or so since I finished it! To anyone who is dissatisfied with the way things are getting done up on Capitol Hill but doesn't know what the causes are of our problems or what alternatives we have to Washington style-solutions, please read this book, I can assure you that you will soon have a just cause to fight for, freedom.
This book really did force me to undergo a complete political 360. I used to be a loyal Republican, well at least as loyal as any teenager can be. I would listen to Rush Limbaugh on my mp3 player in class, record Hannity and Colmes for when I was done with my homework, and avidly supported John McCain from the beginning of the Republican presidential primary up until the last hours of November 4. However, after completing my reading of this new American classic, I can no longer support the Republican Party at all, unless that is the nominate a Ron Paul Revolutionary 4 years from now. In fact, despite the fact that I was only half-way through with this revolutionary title I tuned into Sean Hannity's new show an found myself screaming at the television, but this time not at a liberal or controversial guest, but the host himself, that idiot Sean Hannity! My views on everything, from foreign policy to civil liberties to economics to monetary policy have been completely transformed, or in some cases created from what was once ignorance, and in my opinion perfected.
Well, I'm off to my local library here in Phoenix to see if I can hunt down some of the titles recommended in his reading extensive, and I trust wonderful, reading list!
Peace, love, and liberty to all!
P.S. Buy this book!
