Book Reviews of The Red HeartBook Review: The Red Heart Summary: 5 Stars
I have always loved historical novels, and especially loved James Alexander Thom's FOLLOW THE RIVER and FROM SEA TO SHINING SEA and LONG KNIFE. It has been a while since I've read more of Thom's books, and this RED HEART was by far as enjoyable as FOLLOW THE RIVER, which was always my most favorite. I felt like I really knew Frances Slocum and Maconakwa. I felt the "spirit" in this book. It was a wonderful story, and I highly recommend it. I am about to start PANTHER IN THE SKY now, and will let you know how that was!
Book Review: A beautiful, emotional story. . . Summary: 5 Stars
I have read all six of Thom's historical novels. I didn't think he could top the others, but this story of Frances Slocum's transition to strong Miami woman grasped me and pulled me into those times; the characters are alive and real - both the Miami people and the Slocum family. I thank Mr. Thom for sharing this story with his readers and will continue to watch for more books from this important author.
Book Review: Fabulous Historical Novel Summary: 5 Stars
This book is wonderful from start to finish. I read Follow The River 20 years ago and this book was just as satifying. It was enlightening to be inside the mind of a white girl raised as a Native American during the turn of the 19th century, and to begin to understand the tragic outcome of the federal government's policies during that period.
Book Review: The Red Heart Summary: 5 Stars
This is a wonderful book! I had a hard time putting it down. Very descriptive, in a sense that you REALLY know the people. James Alexander Thom has the ability to place the reader directly in the scene, the time, the attitude. I cannot wait to read more of his books.
Book Review: A Page Turner Summary: 5 Stars
I usually am not one to read historical fiction, but with Thom I make the exception. This is a fantastic read! Very visual. And you can tell that Thom did his research!!!! Very educational!!!! I recommend this book to anyone who has interest in Native Americans.
