Book Reviews of The Prophet's Way: A Guide to Living in the Now

Book Review: Best book Hartmann has written.
Summary: 5 Stars

A confession: I've read this book at least 20 times over the last nine years. I've often reflected on its hold over my attention and think it represents a life lived, not unlike my own spiritual path, although I don't think the author has any value traits like my own. So this review is a paradox of sorts.

The book documents the life of a rather remarkable man, Herr Muller, the founder of Salem a world wide organization dedicated to healing, care, and love on behalf of the Anawim. It is the life story of Herr Muller's spiritual conversion to walk a marginal path for the betterment of the least of the least who have been discarded by society.

The narrative is fascinating and relevant to spiritual insight providing some exceptional gems of wisdom for anyone interested in humility. It demonstrates the personal commitment required of walking a marginal path without one's focus on material gain, ego enhancement, and the quest for fame, popularity, or celebrity. It shows us the value of personal obscurity on a spiritual level that may lead one to liberation. This type of personal liberation is not found in public demonstrations geared to fame or enhancing personal wealth, but found instead in walking day by day honoring the most intimate inner values of integrity not compromised by the outer world of celebrity.

There are many fine and inspiring stories within this narrative that are worthwhile teaching tools to engage one's own spiritual development.

I have always believed that personal prayer to great men or women who walked this earth can open a portal for our own well being and transformation. Since Herr Muller's death last year, I have prayed to this great saint often, hoping to be lifted and taken deeper into my own insignificance. When I die, I hope I am not remembered by the Powers of this world, but instead, held in affection by the lives of those I've touched, helped, and the generosity of my time and care to those most in need of healing care.

IF countercultural values holds a beacon of light to your values, then this little book may open a doorway into another way of living. Like everything, it begins with a choice to take up the difficult task of being authentically oneself without compromise to the siren calls of power. The vistas you discover along the way, may transform your life the further along you go until you find a place of inner peace within that cannot be corrupted by anything or anyone.

Summary of The Prophet's Way: A Guide to Living in the Now

Thom Hartmann?s own dramatic spiritual journey that illuminates specific techniques for achieving spiritual transformation

? Recounts travels to the farthest corners of the earth in pursuit of universal spiritual truths

? Reveals the teachings of Hartmann?s spiritual guides, providing an intimate glimpse into his relationship with German mystic Herr Müller

? Offers practices and techniques for readers seeking to grow spiritually

In the course of his work for the charitable organization Salem, Thom Hartmann personally witnessed famine in Uganda, chaos in Russia, and genocide in Colombia--all signs that modern cultures have lost the connection to the sacred, both within and without, that was emblematic of older cultures. To truly flourish, the human spirit needs to be present in its surroundings and attuned to the Now. It needs to act on what it knows is possible and to experience how the smallest actions can have massive consequences. This is the reality of the Prophet?s Way, a path--both literal and figurative--that the author walked with his spiritual mentor Herr Müller that skirts the edge of the precipice, where one can experience a truly spontaneous life under seemingly overwhelming and impossible circumstances.

In The Prophet?s Way, Thom Hartmann shares his intense spiritual journey, a story that melds recent discoveries in science with ancient truths. Through insightful and engaging vignettes Hartmann teaches that accepting the challenge to have faith means living on the edge--remaining in the moment--because it is here where the material and spiritual worlds meet. He offers readers a unique view into his experiences of expanded consciousness, providing a powerful example of how we can re-create our future by reconnecting to the sacred heartbeat of the world.
