Book Reviews of The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands

Book Review: Maybe the best I've read in this genre!
Summary: 5 Stars

Although I knew who Dr. Laura Schlessinger was, to my knowledge I've never listened to her on the radio or seen her on television, so I really didn't know what to expect from her book, other than that I had heard is was very good. As a minister, I counsel a lot of young couples and thought I might glean some useful information here. I can't begin to express how refreshing her book has been. Dr. Laura's no-holds barred delivery is a welcome change from the watered down marriage advice books that tend to surface so often.

To be sure, this book has, and will continue to ruffle the feathers of agenda driven feminist counselors who have done much to destroy the institution of marriage over the past four decades. THE PROPER CARE AND FEEDING OF HUSBANDS is somewhat of a return to traditional roles, which is precisely what the feminist movement has sought to destroy. This book asks the hard questions that will, if answered honestly, help salvage a distressed marriage. Questions such as, "How is it that so many women are angry with men in general yet expect to have a happy life married to one of them?" "What will make him continue to love me if I continue to act this way?" and "Would I want my own sons to marry someone who treats them the way I treat their father?"

These engaging questions are accompanied by page after page of very profound statements that are sure to give any marriage reason for reflection. Statements such as, "The cruelest thing a wife can ever do to a husband is to never be happy." "You're going to get a lot of love reflected back to you if you concentrate on the giving rather than nag about receiving" and "Too many women lost too many wonderful opportunities to have a happy and fulfilling life by buying into the destructive notion that woman becomes more if she sees and treats men as less." These are not only the Doctor's suggestions, but also a legion of epiphanies, letters and actual counseling exchanges between Doctor and client.

Two generations ago, divorce was uncommon. Today, it is the norm rather than the exception with over half of all marriages ending in divorce. If you prefer the former category rather than the latter, make this book your guide to putting your marriage back on the right track. Or if you are engaged or recently married, let this book guide you through building a strong foundation with which to build upon.

I must throw in one word of caution. Wives, if your marriage is not what it should be, you'd better read this book and implement its advice before your husband ever gets a chance to read it. Otherwise, when he recognizes how marriage is intended to be, it may be too late. This is the first book of Dr. Schlessinger's that I have read, but it certainly will not be the last!

Summary of The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands

In her most provocative book yet, Dr. Laura urgently reminds women that to take proper care of their husbands is to ensure themselves the happiness and satisfaction they yearn for in marriage.

Women want to be in love, get married, and live happily ever after. Yet disrespect for men and disregard for the value, feelings, and needs of husbands has fast become the standard for male-female relations in America. Those two attitudes clash in unfortunate ways to create struggle and strife in what could be a beautiful relationship.

Countless women call Dr. Laura, unhappy in their marriages and seemingly at a loss to understand the incredible power they have over their men to create the kind of home life they yearn for. Now, in The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands, Dr. Laura shows you?with real-life examples and real-life solutions?how to wield that power to attain all the sexual pleasure, intimacy, love, joy, and peace you want in your life.

Dr. Laura's simple principles have changed the lives of millions. Now they can change yours.
