Book Review: Angst in Sweden
Summary: 5 Stars
Scandanavian police novels are quite diferent than the ones I am used to reading. There is quite a bit of internal dialogue by many of the characters, and there appears to be more concentration on emotions and feelings than usual.
That being said, I did enjoy this book very much. The writing was uniformly excellent, the characters extremely well-drawn, and the plot full of twists and turns so that, until the very end, the reader is unaware of the identity of the person who committed the murder with which the book began.
Snow seems to play a big part in the story, which isn't surprising given the amount of the white stuff that falls in Sweden regularly. The police folk involved in the murder investigation have their own woes and positions on a variety of subjects, and don't seem to be tremendously reluctant to express them.
Place names were unusual, but that's because the story takes plasce in a counrty I don't usually read about much, if at all. After having read this novel, however, I am looking forward to reading more of these excellent Swedish police tales.
