Book Reviews of The Practice of the Presence of GodBook Review: A Book for all Seasons Summary: 5 Stars
A small and simple book with a message of inner peace coming to us from the 1600's. The language may be a bit dated for some but Brother Lawrence speaks the language of the heart. It's probably not a book for people at the top of their game. Not because it wouldn't serve them there but because it's harder to hear the language of the heart when we're at the top of our game. For those who long for lasting peace and contentment, those whose hearts cry out because of loss or staleness, this is a good companion in life. After forty years I still find refreshment for my soul when I read it. A great book for those who have ears to hear and a heart that can listen.
Book Review: Christian meditation Summary: 5 Stars
This book is an excellent, easy-to-read and thought provoking work. The words are those of Brother Lawrence, a simple Carmelite who --through conversations and letters to a friend--tells about his spiritual journey and how he learned to practice the presence of God. It is a classic, yet is small (less than 100 pages) and pocket sized so that you can read it anywhere and anytime. I think I will take it with me on my next flight and read it all over again. A real joy.
Book Review: Great book. Summary: 5 Stars
This little book is one that every Christian should have in their bookcase. I acquired a copy some 30 years ago. Raising children and feeling somehow not quite as close to God as I should be. This book helped me to remember that God is with me. He is with me when I wash dishes, change a diaper, sweep a floor, prepare endless meals.
I have read it many times since I first obtained it, and I have it sitting out to read again.
Book Review: This book could change your life. Summary: 5 Stars
The practice of including God in all you do and walking with Him is something that will change your life for the good. This book is simple and easy to understand. Does not take very long to read and has some great things to share for those of us who want to know God better and experience His presence in all we do while we are on this earth. I highly recommend this book... and the principles it shares.
Book Review: Persistent faith Summary: 5 Stars
This is a book of the sayings of an illiterate man in the 1600's who worked his life talking to God in everything he did in order to feel the presence of God. Finally, it happened and this peasant man became filled with such wisdom that he was made a Brother in a monastery and people from all around the area came to him for words of advice. Beautiful reading.
