Book Reviews of The PowerScore LSAT Logic Games BibleBook Review: I much better now with Logic Games Summary: 5 Stars
my order arrived in 5 days and i was glad to get started on the LSAT, i have all 3 books from PowerScore and im learning the basics first. i highly recommend to get the all 3 prep books and learn the basics and then start timing yourself with actual LSAT Prep test. Well since i work full time i can only dedicate about 10 hours a week for my preparation for the June 2011 exam. This book will help you learn how to answer the different types of questions, but in order to do well on the LSAT you must practice, practice and practice. At first I didnt know how to set up the simple linear games and now i have learned the skills needed to do well on the logic games section. This book have really help me alot, so get it and see for yourself my friends. I also advise you when you are working on the sample test from powerscore books not to rush and take your time to really understand what the questions are asking and try to answer them with the best of your abilities. As you master the basics then time yourself. In addition if you can start from chapter one again on this book to the end will give you more confidence. This logical section of the LSAT is sometimes 24 questions, so dont worry if you cant answer all of them but at least 15.Also i dont have the time and money to spend on expensive prep classes when i can learn the simple basics from powerscore books and take it from there. So dont waste your money on those prep courses unless you think you cant do better after completing these books.
Book Review: Excellent Summary: 5 Stars
I immediately ordered this book after working through the Kaplan's Logic Games workbook for a bit. I just the Powerscore one today and I can already say that it's a lot better than the Kaplan book. The Kaplan book had many editing errors (primarily mixed up answers), which made it very confusing to someone who is just starting to study for the LSAT. The explanations and strategies were somewhat hard to understand as well. I also feel that it doesn't provide enough practice problems so that you know you entirely grasp the concepts.
The Powerscore book, on the other hand, has really clear explanations. I really like that it gives you literally step by step practice on solving the logic games. It's also more detailed than the Kaplan book, and there are notes at the margins, which I thought were really helpful. It gives you small hints here and there on what to look out for while solving the games. I also like that the book is "honest," meaning it pretty much says "If you don't do this, then you won't get the question" and it also encourages you to read each and every explanation for the correct and incorrect answers.
Book Review: Fantastic Book - Can't recommend highly enough Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this book when I was about 9 weeks into a Kaplan LSAT prep class and I just wasn't making the progress I wanted to, in Logic Games. Felt I needed extra practice and some kind of change in the way I was approaching the problems. This was really well-reviewed on Amazon... so I bought it.
THANK GOODNESS I DID! My scores on the LG sections of the test rose from low 70th percentile to high 80's/low 90's. I literally went from missing 5-6 questions to missing 2-3, every time. I was particularly pleased with the way the book teaches you to approach the games: it shows you how to confidently attack every problem you will face... and for me, that was key.
I was so impressed with this book that I also ordered The Logical Reasoning Bible; I'm only 1/5 of the way through that one and already see subtle differences in the way I'm performing on that section of the test.
The books are well laid out, with the concepts clearly, simply explained. There are plenty of drills and the explanations are detailed and extremely helpful. I really can't recommend this highly enough.
Book Review: Must buy for anyone struggling with Logic Games Summary: 5 Stars
Logic Games is usually the section most people have the toughest time with on the exam. It's not that LG questions are particularly hard- if given enough time, I'm sure most reasonably intelligent people could get them all right. The problem is they don't give you enough time on the exam- inevitably, you get hung up trying to figure out one game and miss those questions, and then have to rush to finish the other games. I consider myself a "good standardized test taker" and this section was killing my practice test scores. Until, that is, I bought this book.
This book will teach you the different game and question types, how to diagram them and make efficient use of your time. I went from getting up to 14 wrong on LG to scoring 100% on the exam, I finished with 5-7 minutes to spare.
This review may sound overly effusive, but I can't stress enough how important this book was in the grand scheme of things. For less than fifty bucks and an hour a night for a few weeks, I scored in the top 1% and I'll be attending a T6 in the fall.
Book Review: The Cornerstone of LSAT Preparation Summary: 5 Stars
The LSAT Logic Games Bible is absolutely exceptional and should be the cornerstone of all LSAT preparation. When I first started preparing for the LSAT, I felt timid and, frankly, scared of the Logic Games section. I loved doing these types of games as a kid in high school, but the methodology for approaching these games in the LSAT is radically different. At first, this book seemed daunting and swimming in minutia, but by the 350th page, I really felt comfortable doing almost all types of Logic Games, albeit at my own pace and not at 8 minutes, 45 seconds each.
Seriously, if you buy one book in preparation for the LSATs, buy this. Buy it at least three weeks before the test - don't draw your studying out for any longer than that unless you enjoy such things. Pair it with an LSAC prep book with ten actual tests (like this one: 10 More Actual, Official LSAT PrepTests (Lsat Series)) and you are, most definitely, as set as you can be.
