This book gives you an understanding of Afghanistan; its rich history, its dire poverty, and leaves you wondering how we can bring democracy to this wonderful coutry. Each step of the author's extraordinary travels is dependent on the local warlord's approval and the kindness of the locals blended with their two thousand year old history and religion. The book documents the intrusion of the Taliban and their lasting influence. It is my recommendation that policy makers in Washington read and understand this book.
