I first saw Dr. Perricone on the Oprah show. Fascinated with the concept and the before and after guests on Oprah's show I read more about his book. Time went by and again I saw his show on PBS. I decided to try the diet and bought the book. I'm no doctor but I do have a B.S. degree in Biology. So I understood most of what he says in the book. I tried to follow the diet exactly but without the expensive supplements. I could clearly see a difference in the way I looked after two weeks. I had lost 7 lbs, my face didn't look drawn any longer, I had more color and general overall look of healthiness. I'm 55 and don't have that many wrinkles, but I just wanted to lose weight, lower my cholesterol, look and feel better. The tiny lines I do have were the same as before but my skin looked a lot nicer after three weeks. Later I bought supplements from another company and I take those when I think of it. Before visiting my son and his family for Christmas last year I jumped on Perricone's 3-day Face Lift diet and followed it to the letter. When my son picked me up at the airport he said, "You look great! What did you do?".
The three day diet is ok, but you really need to give it a couple of months to see results. I didn't see much in three days except to get rid of bloating and bags and dark circles under the eyes, and some of the saggyness around my eyes was a little less, and an overall softer look to my skin. Some folks are just genetically predisposed to have deeper wrinkles or wrinkle earlier than others so results may vary.
My overall opinion of the book is it's easy to read and understand. The recipes are yummy but have way too many ingredients and take a long time to prepare. I spent a lot of time in the kitchen preparing food every day. Not my favorite thing to do. I would like to see Dr. Perricone come out with some new easy to prepare 30-minute meals. I'm so burned out on salmon that I can hardly eat it now. Yuck! I take salmon oil capsules now just to get it in my body. The other thing is many of the ingredients in his recipes aren't carried by local grocery stores. I had to hunt to find many of them or buy online. Consequently I had to improvise because the stores in my town don't carry some of the more unusual items like almond butter or soy flour for example. Hey Dr. P! How about some Perricone diet dinners in my grocer's frozen food case?
I rate the book a 5 for content and results that I got. The recipes get four stars.
