Book Reviews of The Overlook (Harry Bosch)

Book Review: Harry Is Back
Summary: 4 Stars

I read very little fiction, but when I see a Michael Connelly book (in paperback) one hand goes to the book while the other goes to the wallet. As one who is jealous of his reading time, my Pavlovian reflex says a lot about this author. But if you have read Connelly this is no surprise.

Harry Bosch, L. A. super detective, again bucks the FBI, connects again with the lovely agent-in-charge, reminds us of earlier cases and partners but doesn't let this interfere with the enjoyment of the reader who has never before read a Bosch mistery.

Book Review: Solid Plot
Summary: 4 Stars

Shorter than the usual Connelly-Bosch combination, but just as rich. The plot is taut and requires Bosch's terrific power of observation, gut instincts and relentless ability to stick with the facts. Maybe not as layered as some other Connelly works, but a very satisfying entry in the Bosch chronicles. The scene near the end, where Bosch is a couple of steps ahead of Walling and helps her see what he has already seen -- or, in this case, not seen -- is a beauty for dialogue and how to reveal what's really going on, including for us readers.

Book Review: It doesn't jibe
Summary: 4 Stars

The plot is dandy but the end of it are just words. I'm really disappointed as how they found the bad guy and just everything ended as a fairy tale. This doesn't mean that the book is bad or wrong-written but the end of it doesn't par the beginning. If you are planing a long flight you could read this one in a sitting.

Book Review: The latest fast paced Harry Bosch mystery
Summary: 4 Stars

This short tightly written follow up to Connelly's earlier " Echo Park" concerns twelve hours in Harry's hectic LA life, his crackling repartee, his Boschian tiffs with the FBI and a tutorial on cesium and radiation. More Connelly fun and games.

Book Review: Short, Sweet Harry
Summary: 4 Stars

I'm a fan of Michael Connelly's Bosch series. While this is not one of his best books, it certainly holds its own. I enjoyed the fast paced sotry telling with plenty of Harry's craziness slapping me in the face!
Thumbs up!
