Book Reviews of The Original Rider Waite Tarot PackBook Review: A Wonderful Start Summary: 5 Stars
I have only just begun my relationship with the Tarot, and I must say that this deck is already a wonderful friend. I have looked at, worked with, and purchased other decks, but for some reason the archetypes speak to me more intimately with this deck than any yet that I have encountered. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has any serious interest in the tarot, whether for the technical aspect of the esotericism the deck embodies, or whether for simply intuitional reasons. As a compliment to the deck, I also recommend a book by Isabel Kliegman, "Tarot and the Tree of Life." Its revealing focus on the Minor Arcana is inspirational and inviting. For the Major Arcana I would recommend the serious and monumental work, "Meditations on the Tarot," by an anonymous author of great wisdom and learning. These together will help to expose some of the inner currents that run through the Tarot and into us, the readers, while the grounded and inspired art and wisdom found in Smith and Waite's collaberation will guide any sincere student on their way down the Path.

Waite with a thought provoking forward by Liz Greene. "The Key to the Tarot," Will not only help you to understand the meanings of the cards as the appear in readings for your self or others but will show you the meaning behind each image. The set comes with a pictorial guide for one of the reading styles " The Celtic Cross". Overall the Rider Waite Deck has beautiful and lively imagery and has been used by many people of many faiths. See the images on each card and read the meaning of not only the card but also the images portrayed in each illustration and see the many steps a person takes in their life. Have fun and happy reading. V.Valentour
Book Review: Truely ground zero for all! Summary: 5 Stars
Shame on the reviewer who cannot appreciate the beauty of this deck. These images are the original archetypes that would cause such a dramatic interest in this rather obscure means of "fortune telling". It is true the images are not vibrant and colorful. The Universal Waite deck came nearly a century later and lovingly pays tribute to these original images. Many other "clones" would follow with various intrepretations/colorations. The basic images remain a constant.
This was the first set of images I was exposed to years ago and have grown to love over time. They have mystery and depth to them which must be experienced first hand. All modern standards come from this set. The backs are the best intrepretation I have ever seen. Much better then the busy lines that most see. The soft colors with their tan tone is soothing to the eye. While not an "absolute" original reprint of the deck, I feel this is the closest one can get!
Book Review: A Classic! Summary: 5 Stars
The Original Rider-Waite Tarot Pack is a very good deck. However, the book is very small--the same size as the cards. In addition, the Celtic Cross Divinatory Chart is basically a small piece of paper stating where the cards go.
The pictures in this deck are much duller than the pictures in the other Rider-Waite Deck (or what's printed on the box, "The Rider Tarot Deck"). The pictures aren't as crisp in "The Original Rider Waite Tarot Pack," but for any lover of this deck it is a must. Again though, I do prefer the Rider-Waite-Smith deck that came out in the 1970s and was then called "the original." That deck is also available on amazon and has a picture of The Magician on the box.
I do love both decks and both are probably as close to the "original" as we can hope, but perhaps this deck--even though it's a bit duller--is the closest to the "original" as we could ever hope for.
Book Review: Forget those psychic hotlines! Summary: 5 Stars
Don't call Miss Cleo. Get yourself this classic Tarot deck and begin finding your own answers to life's questions. Of course, I like to think of the Tarot as the "training wheels" on the bicycle of psychic development. And I purposely ignore the canned interpretations. Most of the time they are too confusing and contradictory anyhow. Just stare at the pictures and let them reveal their own story. That's the beauty of this deck. It is rich in symbolism and detail--so much so that you can look at the same card again and again and come away with a very different meaning. Of course, for the best instructions on reading the Tarot, you might also wish to purchase "Positive Magic: Occult Self-Help" by Marion Weinstein. With her book and the classic Rider Waite deck, you'll be on your way to amazing yourself as well as your friends. Sorry, Miss Cleo.
