Book Reviews of The One that Got Away: My SAS Mission behind Enemy Lines

Book Review: Quite simply incredible reading
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a British Citizen and I can tell you why Chris Ryan seems colder than Andy McNabb in terms of his writing and personality. it is because Andy is a born and bred Londoner (from the south if you prefer) and Londoners are by nature much more gregarious and jack the lad. Chris comes from the North East a Geordie as we call them - much more reserved by nature and a great deal more so in situations such as these. Hence the difference in the two accounts and writing styles. Chris Ryan has a totally different style of writing full stop - he is a more serious man and sees things more seriously full stop. I have read all of Andy Mcnabb's books (fact and fiction) and I love them all. However I have also read Chris Ryan and I love his books too.

As far as this book goes however what can I say?. I haven't read the 1 and 2 star reviews because I think they will really anger me. I don't belive this book deserves any kind of pasting from anyone unless they can do better - and I will put money that none of the ones who criticise him could do better either in accounting this story or in surviving to tell it in the first place. This man was almost superhuman to survive the ordeal he went through and then to get to Syria, not even realise it and continue to stagger in fear and to hide unknowing because he had a crap map that was totally wrong in its information!. Even when he did finally realise he was safe he was treated and made to feel as if he was the enemy when starving, dehydrated to the point of almost death and suffering with both poisoning from the radioactive water (which fortunately caused very little ill effects to him) barely able to walk and with the frost bite to fingers and toes among other things. How many people who write these reviews out there can truthfully say they too know how that feels?.

I think the man deserved a great deal more than a medal personally and I agree with him that the medal should have been presented under military conditions among people who really understood what it was for. Nonethless I congratulate him for everything he has achieved both fact and in fiction and I hope he continues to get the credit for everything that is clearly his due.

I just wonder when the 30 year offical secrets period lapses in 2011 what will then be published as the real Bravo 2 Zero and by whom?
