Book Review: What I noticed
Summary: 4 Stars
The Noticer flipped back and forth for me between scenes that I greatly enjoyed reading and long drawn out conversations that really didn't add much to the characters. Overall I enjoyed the book, but felt like it should have cut a couple of unneeded chapters out.
The story centers around a character named Jones. He is a well liked, elderly man that is always willing to provide what he considers the answer to all life's problems, a little perspective. Jones' point of view is that no matter how bad life seems, a change of perspective on whatever situation you might be in will not only give you a more positive outlook, but also help you to improve those circumstances tremendously.
This central theme in The Noticer is something that I found I identified with greatly. It's all too easy to focus on our own motivations in life. Yet, if we take a step back, we start to see the bigger picture of what is going on around us and that what seem like troubles are often great opportunities for us to improve our lives and the lives of those around us.
The Noticer is no great novel that will reveal the secrets of the universe to you in a brilliant flash of understanding. However, it is a thought provoking read and I ultimately would have to recommend it.
