The large format is very easy to read and use for a person new to Astronomy (like myself). I had immediate success the first two nights out using the map locating stars and constellations from my backyard!!!
Make sure you purchase the proper map based on your latitude...
The only thing I forgot to do was purchase a red light for viewing the chart at night, but I simply converted a flashlight with some translucent red plastic I had in the house.
I am using my planisphere with the freeware planetarium program: Stellarium available for download from http://www.stellarium.org and now can supplement my understanding of the map, it's use, and therefore my outside viewing experience.
The construction and materials of the map are excellent. I'm very glad I purchased this product... a great value!
Summary of The Night Sky 30?-40? (Large; North Latitude)
The Night Sky is a rotating star finder (planisphere) that allows the user to recognize the constellations for any time of night, any day of the year. The sky appears to rotate (due to the rotation and orbital motion of the earth), so to be successful recognizing the constellations a beginner needs to know which stars are above the horizon at any time.This is the full-sized version of The Night Sky suitable for the 30?-40? latitude zone (southern half of the US, North Africa, Middle East, etc.). We have versions for the following latitude zones: 50?-60?, 40?-50?, 30?-40?, 20?-30?, and the Southern Hemisphere. We also have pocket-sized versions available for the same latitude zones.
