Book Review: Good but very very dated

The content of the book may be relevant and useful if you own or are interested in any of the older model Celestron telescopes discussed. Unfortunately the material is dated and I couldn't immediately find any coverage of telescopes in Celestron's current productline (May 2010). I wanted to use the book to help me learn about Celestron's current offerings and also to help me decide on what to buy but it ended up being a chore trying to match the new and current products to those covered in the book either by name, features and capabilities. So I gave up and returned the book.
If you are interested in older Celestron telescope models, the book may be of value to you. If you have some familiarity with Celestron's goto telescopes, you could probably figure out and benefit from the book by applying the content to current models. The book may have a potential and will serve interested buyers well if the author and publisher releases an updated edition.
Summary of The NexStar User's Guide
Celestron's NexStar telescopes were introduced in 1999, beginning with their first computer controlled "go to" model, a 5-inch. More models appeared in quick succession, and Celestron's new range made it one of the two dominant manufacturers of affordable "go to" telescopes. Michael Swanson's online discussions with literally thousands of NexStar owners made it clear that there was a desperate need for a book such as this - one that provides a complete, detailed guide to buying, using and maintaining NexStar telescopes. Although this book is highly comprehensive, it is suitable for beginners - there is a chapter on "Astronomy Basics" - and experts alike.Astronomy Books
