This story shows children that older adults are not what they seem to be at first glance. It is a lovely story of old Charlie. Thechildren in his neighborhood dare each other to go and talk with him. The outcome of this game the children play is wonderful! I really think this is an excellent story for pre-schoolers and younger school children. It teaches them to be kind to older adults for these older folk DO really matter!

This book is a winner in the annual Scholastic, Inc. "Kids Are Authors" competition. It is bright, colorful, and shiny cover to cover. It's a story about children who befriend a lonely, old man whose arthritis has deprived him of his career as a world-renowned cellist. Predictably, the old man teaches the children lessons about life, associating memories with "music in the heart."
