Book Reviews of The Mixing Engineer's Handbook, Second EditionBook Review: Decent Book Summary: 4 Stars
There's a lot of great material in this book, however, only half of the book are actual studio concepts. The other half is interviews with engineers. This not a bad thing. The interviews are very insightful. However, when the chapter on adding dimension to your mixes comes to only 20 pages and leaves more questions than answers it becomes clear that the trade off is not worth it. I would've liked to have seen every technical chapter in this book doubled.
Still, this is a good book and worth buying.
Book Review: Useful information that assumes some background Summary: 4 Stars
Very useful information, interesting reading and thinking about what the different engineers have to say. I also like the sections it provides on the artistic aspect of mixing.
It assumes you're already somewhat familiar with mixing sound, like how to "sweep across the spectrum" to find the dominant frequency. But just reading through it improved the quality of the live mixes I do under less-than-ideal recording conditions.
Book Review: 80's Audio Summary: 4 Stars
This book is talking about the 80's age where they were using ANALOG equipments. It is good to remember old days techniques because it will shows us the concepts of today's equipments. It also brings some new ideas for the novices and intermediates in mixing; which will improve their mixes indeed.
I'm giving it 4/5 because it could be better. An audio CD demo representing the audible media would be a plus if included.
Book Review: Great start for understanding mixing Summary: 4 Stars
This book allows us to have a great approach to the world of audio mixing. With the great contribution of specific comments does show engineers recognized the broad spectrum of how to approach a mix and what criteria should be taken into account in making decisions when shaping the product.
Book Review: Something good to start with Summary: 4 Stars
Now this book had me going when I was new in recording and mixing. Frustration comes when you do not know anything in the field of mixing. But with this, I had something to refer to. I recommend this one for other beginners like me.
