Book Reviews of The Master Cleanser: With Special Needs and Problems

Book Review: For those complaining of pain, cankers, headaches, dizziness
Summary: 5 Stars

I've read a number of reviews here where a person starts on this cleanse, but then stops after a few days because of all the sudden "pains, aches, canker sores, dizziness, pimples, feeling horrible" etc. It IS important to listen to your body, but at the same time...this is a CLEANSING DIET. All the source material about detoxing that I've ever come across makes the point that all such "pain and discomfort" is generally a result of the detox, and is a sign that your body is getting rid of GUNK! The gunk in your cells, tissues, all through your body...it doesn't JUST come out the potty end. If you're suddenly feeling pretty bad a few days into this intense cleanse, that's a very good sign that not only is it working, but that you NEED it. It's no fun to go through the process of releasing toxins, but at the same time, if you can get through it, you will burst onto a whole new level of wellness. If you think about it, rewards often come through a certain level of "trouble", whether it's spending weeks in the library studying a subject to gain knowledge or running 3 blocks to catch the last train. You've got to "get through it" to get the reward. My main point here is: this detox diet is not "bad" because it causes painful (and initial) side effects. That's a sign that it is working to clean out your body.
As a small second note, it amuses me to read the reviews here that rail against the "dangers" of not getting a full daily dose of every vitamin, mineral, etc. during the fast. The average American diet is cheesburgers, fries, coke, and meat-lovers pizzas. This diet seems like a very benign "danger" next to a lifetime of fettucine alfredo!
Fasting isn't for everyone, but if you choose to, you should understand what fasting will do for you, and how.

Book Review: A must have for anyone even thinking about trying a cleanse or fast
Summary: 5 Stars

I think it's great that S.B. kept this book short and simple. I've paid more for greeting cards than I paid for this book yet I get so much more out of it.

The internet is full of descriptions and interpretations of how to do the Master Cleanse. The problem is that most of these descriptions and even supposed online free copies have slight alterations. I've done this cleanse about 7 times and still use the booklet to refresh my memory to make sure I do it correctly and haven't forgotten or confused measurements, timing, allowed and not-allowed variations etc. I don't count the first time I attempted to do it because I didn't have the booklet yet and ended up failing because the online instructions I read turned out to be wrong. The slight difference in that person's take on things turned out to make a huge difference. Once I got the book, my first real master cleanse was a fabulous success.

Get the book and know for sure the real way to do the Master Cleanse without other people's opinions injected on how they think it can be improved or modified, etc. If you ever decide to try a modified version of it, that's fine too, but at least you will know what is the Master Cleanse and what is something else that was inspired by it.

PS: in case you don't understand the instructions to drink water in the book, drink lots of it! I find I have the best results if I do not count saltwater, tea, or lemonade toward my daily water intake and pretty much drink one or more glasses of water for every glass of lemonade I drink. My one complaint about this book is that this is not stressed enough and a person might miss mention of water and assume that drinking all those lemonades means they won't need water or may think that drinking any water at all is just optional.

Book Review: Second try...
Summary: 5 Stars

I read the book and researched many websites before I started. I followed the instructions to the tee. I made mine in 2 liter batches and carried a refillable bottle with me at all times. I started this cleanse w/a friend (very important!), and started phasing out after ten days because it was just in time for my 3rd wedding anniversary. I really wanted to continue, since I didn't feel ready to stop, but I didn't want to "ruin" my anniversary. I regret coming off before I was ready because I just took a head-dive straight into my old food habits (Halloween didnt help. LoL). I didn't do it to lose weight, but to get into a new head-space and make some changes for myself, to be free of my addictions. I felt great the entire time and had boundless energy. I managed to keep up my walking routine, and be involved in many tempting food situation (which did not phase me one bit!). I was able to cook and prepare food for my family and felt great. It has only been a week since the end of my first MC, but I started again yesterday. For some, this may seem like too much, but I feel like I had more to experience. I don't feel like I phased out well, and I really want to complete the elimination of my food addiction. I felt like that was happening, but I stopped too soon. My husband and friend are joining me for this one because they saw how amazing the results were with me. My husband said he felt badly on day 1, but feels great today. I'm feeling as good as I did the first go-round, so that tells me I'm doing the right thing. I am aiming for 40 days! I really believe that at least 21 days will free me off my addiction to food forever. I know it seems a little crazy, but I have never felt as calm, peaceful, level-headed, light and vibrant as while on the MC! Good Luck!

Book Review: Better than any other and not that hard!
Summary: 5 Stars

This was the best cleanse I have done so far. For the two weeks I was on it I had no pains in my back, neck, shoulders or joints. Plus I lost and have kept off the last 10 pounds I had since having my daughter. I had more benefits from the cleanse, but I'm afraid it would be too much to read. You definitely have to get the mind set to do it. I had to prepare food for my daughter still, but it wasn't hard to do. She loved the lemon drink sans the cayanne of course. My husband did it with me as well as some family members. Everyone loves it. I bought the book for some friends who are also going to be doing it when I do it again. I feel this is essential to keeping your system healthy. I don't crave junk food nor have I had it since getting off the diet 5 weeks ago. We cook more at home also. I have always been into health and aware of foods and what the wrong ones can do to you. We went pretty much all organic about a year ago, but I still cheated while at work and would grab a burger and soda from time to time. I also lost my craving for a cup of decaf coffee every morning. The great thing about the cleanse is you also don't crave sweets. It really does make a difference in how you eat and view food. I highly recommend this cleanse for anyone over eighteen the results are wonderful and it's a good maintenance program for your body. I also must mention this I had a very calming and loving feeling towards life and others while doing the cleanse, I think it is truly amazing how much chemicals from foods and other ingested properties can really make you moody, edgy, irritable and stressed. Test it I think you will be pleasantly surprised, but follow the diet exactly. Best of luck.

Book Review: So many benefits...... (also excellent for quitting smoking)
Summary: 5 Stars

This cleanse works. I know at least ten people including myself who have done this fast and all of them, ALL of them have had very good results. It can be difficult at times, you can crave food in a sensual way even though you are not actually hungry. Your sense of smell is almost immediately heightened (especially if you give up smoking during the fast, which is how I finally quit some time ago) . I did not expect the weight loss that came with the fast. My weight loss actually came over the next 6 months after the first time I did this fast, I lost at least 20 pounds. The same thing happened for two other friends of mine. The immediate weight loss of the fast is not even as important as how cleansing your body can make you continue to lose weight *after* the fast. It has SO many health benefits. It helps with athletes foot (as it did for my boyfriend) because this is a condition often associated with candida. It helps many chronic problems and helped me with some of mine. Gives you a healthier immune system! Also, if you are dizzy on this fast as some people report you can alleviate that by drinking more of the lemonade and also adding a bit more maple syrup. Excercise during the fast is also tremendously helpful to stir things up and get them out of your system. Tried and true! Funny that many of the negative reviews come from people who have either not tried the fast or given up. Stick with it! Yes, it can be boring not putting any solid food in your mouth for ten days but if you are determined for a mere 10 days out of your life the whole quality of your health will improve for quite some time.
