Book Reviews of The Master Cleanser: With Special Needs and ProblemsBook Review: Nothing else around like it! Summary: 5 Stars
I cleansed for the first time in May, 1999. My mentor was on this cleanse (day #18), and because of his tremendous success & side benefits he was experiencing, I gave it a try. I admit that I was "hungry" for the first 3 days, but after that, hunger was not an issue. I was 34 yrs. old at the time, a distance runner, and weight/height proportionate. The results for me were phenomenal. Never in my life would I have imagined the "stuff" that was in my gastro-intestinal tract, yet alone throughout other parts of my body. The "gunk" that had been caked to the walls of the G.I. tract was unbelievable. My mentor went 33 days on this cleanse, I just went 10 days. I now have cleansed every 3 - 4 months, and as of this day, I am on my 6th cleanse (4/16/01). Many people who do not understand "deep body & tissue cleansing" just smirk & laugh at this. You just ingore any negativity & focus on the positive benefits that it is doing for the body. Oh, I have found that the Shaklee Herb-Lax is the best mover of the waste that is going to be broken up. Also, the tongue will become white (candida/yeast/thrush). I found that brushing the teeth with Shaklee's New Concept Dentrifice is very helpful because it does not contain sugar that the yeast can thrive on (brush the tongue also!). Skin brushing is very important, not only during the cleanse, but for the duration of your life here on earth. It stimulates the lymphatic system to dump waste into the colon. Every 3 - 4 days, the Shaklee Peppermint Tablets are wonderful for the mint tea recommended in the book. Oh, while on this cleanse, soak in 3 caps of Dr. Bronner's Peppermint-Castille soap & 3 caps of Shaklee's Basic-H organic cleaner. Use only ORGANICALLY grown lemons and Grade B Maple Syrup. I have found that using cayenne capsules works great for those individuals who have a hard time with the "heat" of the cayenne. I am currently using 3 capsules a day (morning, afternoon, evening) & seeing how my results are going to be (otherwise, I have always put the cayenne right into my drink). Now, when you get off the cleanse (after breaking it CORRECTLY), I recommend Shaklee's Optiflora (acidophilus/bifidus). It is the ONLY product of its kind that guarantees LIVE delivery of the healthy bacteria to the colon (unbelievable results with this product). Also, purchase the book "Eat For Your Type" (diet according to your blood type). Dr. Bernard Jensen's book "Foods that Heal" is also another outstanding book. You can undo what you did on the cleanse by going back to old, unhealthy, non-cell nourishing eating habits. Be open to change & let your body tell you what it needs & what makes it sick & diseased! Book Review: THIN BOOK full of GREAT info Summary: 5 Stars
I read ALL the reviews before I purchased this book. I was extremely disappointed when the book arrived. It was so thin, I tossed it aside and didn't even bother to read it. MONTHS later, I picked it up again and I did read it. I am so glad I took the time to peruse those fifty pages! Not only did I read it, but I tried the fast.
My husband and I went on the cleansing fast together for eight days. My Mom always said misery loves company. I am JOKING! It wasn't that difficult or bad--I missed food and chewing because I LIKE to eat. Okay, I LOVE to eat. My husband is more active than I am so it was a little harder for him to follow the fast--but we BOTH did it! We experienced the same benefits that others have mentioned already.
What I wanted to add to the 140+ reviews is that for anyone not wanting to commit to a ten day fast, there are compromise alternatives that may also be beneficial to your health and still allow you to use some of the GREAT info in this book.
In the book EATING ALIVE by John Matsen, the author recommends drinking the lemonade first thing in the morning and then waiting as long as possible before eating anything else. It is sort of like a mini fast. I was doing this for MONTHS prior to reading THE MASTER CLEANSER and prior to my eight day Master Cleanser lemonade fast. I have continued my morning lemon juice since I finished the eight day fast.
In Stormie Omartian's book GREATER HEALTH GOD'S WAY, she dedicated one chapter to fasting. Were it not for that one single chapter, I may never have even attempted any kind of a fast--ever! Her simple little chapter encouraged me and offered both hope and information that I sorely needed.
Some people jump right in. Others need to test the water and ease in. The Master Cleanser book offers a jump right in approach. It is my hope that my review will offer some encouragement to those who are more comfortable easing into something new. Either way is OKAY!
My husband and I never used the salt water flush (too harsh). We only used the laxative tea. We discovered that not all laxative teas taste okay. Our two preferences were CHOCOLATE SMOOTH MOVE (NOT the plain Smooth Move--it was yucky) and YOGI TEA GET REGULAR. We added a little of the real maple syrup to the tea. If you feel you need the tea to be a little stronger, simply use two tea bags.
A purist might disagree, but we discovered on about the fifth day of the fast that chewing some Peelu gum helped ease our craving to chew something and gave our jaw some exercise. Hunger wasn't as big an issue as wanting to chew someting and eat food because of how it tastes.
Good luck on your journey to optimum health!
Book Review: Energized and content Summary: 5 Stars
We are still drinking the lemonade, and always plan to. My husband and I stayed on the diet for 9 days. We could have gone longer, but our granddaughter was getting married and we needed the extra day to "come down" from the diet.We had started with a 3-day diet and liked the lemonade and the results. So we just started drinking it after the fast, and kept losing mucous and junk. We eat veggies, fruit, and beans & rice, mostly. We have grown to love eating that way. Before we started our 10-day fast, we took a trip to ID. We drove 18 hours straight from KS to ID. We had energy all the way. We ate veggies and drank fruit smoothies all the way. It was wonderful. We had all the energy we needed to stay alert. I have arthritic knees, and they didn't get stiff at all. Each time I got out of the car, I was able to stand without pain. We were happy and content on the whole trip. When we got home we immediately started our 10-day fast. We never got hungry. I missed the veggies and Dave missed the beans & rice sometimes, but we were NOT hungry. We both felt so clean and content, knowing that we'd lose the toxins and mucous. We use very hot ceyenne pepper...180,000 hu. We put it in our 32 oz bottles. We love the bite. We have been off the fast for 9 days now, and are still drinking the lemonade and drinking the tea. We are eating our regular healthy food, and are still losing toxins and mucous. We don't eat meat or dairy, or any of the poisonous foods on the supermarket shelves. We do most of our shopping at coops. Shopping is so easy now. No more wandering down endless aisles at the supermarket. What we buy may cost more, but we're saving on all the other ... stuff that we're no longer eating. It's such a satisfying and healthy way of eating. We will continue to drink the lemonade and do the fast every so often. We buy our maple syrup and ceyenne pepper on the Internet. It saves us lots of money. I am so thankful for the book, that my daughter found on the Internet. She is starting the diet today for 10 days. I want to try it again for about 20 days soon. I feel very healthy and clean and am full of energy, which we did not have before. There is such a difference. Hope that you younger people will try it too. Most of my children say, "that's fine, if you can have that much will power to drink the stuff, and if that's the way you want to eat, but we want to eat our way, so please don't push your lifestyle on us." I know that it's age talking, but I want so much for them and my grandchildren to also be healthy. It is life-changing. Please try it.
Book Review: Easier than you think.. Summary: 5 Stars
It's hard not to write a book on this experience, but I'll try to keep it short.
1. Read it. It seems to be the obvious thing to do, but I find most people do it, just by getting the recipe. There's some enlightening and important info in this book that will help keep you on the track to a healthier life.
2. Map out your plan. I worked full time at a Lebanese restaurant as a waitress and I was glad to have started on an off day. First day is the hardest, not only b/c of the hunger pangs but b/c it's sooooo easy to break it on the first day.
3. Drink enough-even if it means more than what the book calls for. It's true that you won't be too fatigued, but I should've had more b/c I'm at an average weight and I worked (as a waitress-which means more activity). Follow your instincts.
4. Do it for all the right reasons. The right reasons being for changing your life and diet for the better. Don't do it just to lose weight. If you do, you won't follow through and even if you follow through, you'll hurt yourself by gaining the weight back and throwing your body off balance. Trust me, I've had two friends do it and broke it off on the second day.. or just cheated and it just made them crazy. Mentally prepare yourself for great changes.
5. Have support and educate yourself about food. If no one in your immediate environment is not supportive, read any literature that is. It's more important than you think, especially when you're idle with free time (from not cooking/eating). Best way, if possible, is to do it with a dedicated partner.
BENEFITS
You will read about the benefits throughout this booklet. Personally, my benefits exceed whatever inconvenience or 'torture' my tastebuds and cravings went through in those 11 days.
1. Allergies have improved immensely.
2. lost weight(15lbs.), gained some of it back but did not want to lose weight before the fast.
3. I felt completely light and had a sense of peace that I'd never experienced before.
4. I don't struggle with food anymore. My attitude about food has changed completely. Food can be healing and to clean out like this is like having a clean slate to start life over again.
5. Remember, it's easy to dehydrate but it's hard to starve to death. What keeps you going are the simple ingredients that you add to water.
Most of all, if you do this properly and follow a good diet of nutritious and good food afterwards, you will be happy you did.
Book Review: Did not do it to lose weight, but to cleanse my body! Summary: 5 Stars
I didn't neccessarily do this fast to lose weight. I did it as a kind of "spring cleaning" if you will! And it was amazing how "clean" I felt after taking the salt water. Yes, the salt water is hard to swallow (doesn't taste very good) and I only took two cups of it every morning (half of reccomended- but I am smaller than most people) but it still worked. It was amazing that stuff was still being cleansed through the 10th day. And I am vegan, so I didn't expect it to be as bad as it would be for other people. I did this fast with my roomate and my boyfriend (who was in a different city). My roomate did not do the salt water because she didn't like the taste. She took laxative tea instead. I did not take the laxative tea because it gave me bad stomach cramps and made me feel sick to my stomach. My boyfriend took both the laxative tea in the evening and the salt water in the morning. For me, it was not hard to not eat, I had plenty of energy and I continued to bike commute to work. We have only been eating for about two weeks or less now, and I am staying away from sweets and eating more raw vegetables. Overall, this was not hard to do, it was definitely harder toward the end, and it made it worse to watch TV with all the food commercials and food programs. We were so happy to eat again, but really, I could have gone longer, as food did not seem all it was hyped up to be when we did start eating again. The things we missed most were taste and texture of food, and I found myself looking through my cookbooks and planning out things to cook and bake. You just don't realize how much food is a part of your life, and how many social activities revolve around food. The 10 days do go by slow, as you don't have anything to mark the time of the day (breakfast, lunch, dinner). Also, it's kinda funny how your jaw hurts after you start eating again, because it's not used to chewing! Overall, very highly reccomended, and is a great way to cleanse your body and exercise self-control. I find myself eating less now, and more fresh fruits and veggies than before. And I did end up losing a few pounds, too!
