Book Reviews of The Marlinspike SailorBook Review: A must-have for the Knotter's Library Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this book for two specific reasons. First, because it is recommended by many other knot tyers that know their stuff, and second, because of the illustrations. Although digital photos are nice, I very much enjoy the drawings in this book. They are very clear and easy to follow, and the accompanying text is enjoyable to read as well.
Book Review: Marlinspike for Young Adults Summary: 4 Stars
I found the description and drawings of the knots to be very informative and useful. This book will prove to be a valuable asset for helping us teach the young adults of the Sea Cadet Corps how to identify and tie knots.
Book Review: The MarlinSpike Sailor Summary: 4 Stars
Great book on Knots, very clear instructions, useful list. Every sailor should own a copy!
Book Review: a bit of irritation goes a long way Summary: 3 Stars
I have no one large criticism of this book; however, the author has the irritating habit of sprinkling this volume with too many maritime terminology and sailor slang with which most of us are not familiar. I do not appreciate getting up every few minutes to look up an archaic or highly specialized term whose usage is rare and in a fairly isolated environment.
For an instructional book this is not helpful. People who know this terminology probably know how to make the knots already.
Book Review: Very out dated Summary: 2 Stars
With the exception of some pages that have been added in the back on braided rope this book is horribly outdated. The newer section is just reprints from Sampson rope splices which are available on the web. Unless you are restoring an old square masted sailing craft don't bother.
