Book Reviews of The Mammy

Book Review: Omigod, read this book when you want to laugh!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Mammy is the first book of O'Carroll's trilogy, and it's a winner. While I loved and admired Angela's Ashes, The Mammy, dealing with the same issues of Irish poverty, weak or absent fathers, saintly mums, and the alleyways and neighborhoods of urban Ireland, transcends bleakness to rise to non-stop hilarity.
There isn't an unlikeable character in the book, even if it's a scoundrel. The dialogue sings, the action never stops, and the situations are side-splittingly funny. It's a book that should not be read in bed at night beside a sleeping mate: the bed shaking with your laughter will waken your partner.
Don't miss The Mammy - and then read the other two in the trilogy.

Book Review: If you love to laugh, buy this book
Summary: 5 Stars

"The Mammy" is one of my favorite books. I loved the characters, especially best friends, Agnes and Marion. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to laugh, enjoys great characters, and can appreciate a wonderfully told story. Brendan O'Carroll, I pray you are busy writing more novels because I will buy every book you have published. Anyone who buys this book should also order "The Chisellers" and "The Granny". After falling in love with Agnes Browne and her family, you will want more. I wasn't sure if the next two books could be as good as "The Mammy" but they were just as great!

Book Review: A delight to read!
Summary: 5 Stars

I really enjoyed this look at the all to typical family life of Agnes Browne. Agnes, who may not be the brightest mammy on the block, has a certain sincerity about her that allows the reader to take to heart her everyday life and find serval comparisions of it to their own. This book, which deals with very pressing issues such as cancer and the death of a spouse, concludes with the notion that if you live whole-heartedly and are true to yourself and family, life will find a way of turning tradegy into a livable, sometimes even delightful, experience. What a great BOOK!

Book Review: The best read you're likely to find!
Summary: 5 Stars

Don't be put off by words like 'sentimental' and 'weepy' in the reviews, this book and the two that follow it are salty, delightful, and have a good feminist kick to them.

Agnes Browne, left a widow by her no-good husband, is raising seven children off the proceeds of a vegetable stall. The detail is observant and funny, the children are strong vivid characters, and Agnes will make you grin and break your heart. This woman is a gem. The chat between her and her friends about the possibility of the female 'organism' is worth the price of the book. Enough said?

Book Review: Agnes Browne Trilogy:The Mammy, The Chisllers,The Granny
Summary: 5 Stars

Good-by Frank McCourt! Hello Agnes Browne! Agnes Browne lives life--finding joy in winning at the bingo parlor, having a cider with her best friend Marian after a day at her market stand, and going home to share a cup of tea after dinner with her family.

Through the lives of her seven children the reader experiences a wide range of emotions with Agnes from joy and sadness. From Mark, the success story to Francis (Frankie) and Dermont the constant worries of her life, Agnes loves each of them.

The AGNES BROWNE TRILOGY is a must read book! Super!
