Book Reviews of The Making of Pride and Prejudice (BBC)

Book Review: A must for fans of the BBC miniseries...
Summary: 5 Stars

Everyone who just can't get enough Pride and Prejudice will LOVE this book. It's got a ton of pictures...stills, behind the scenes shots, and everything else you could possibly want. There are interviews with the cast and crew, detailed production information, and a list of filming locations...some of which you can actually visit! Several properties used, including Lyme Park in Cheshire, are owned by the National Trust, and open to visitors.

Unlike the companion book that was published for the ITV Emma movie, there is not a script included, but honestly, it won't be missed! Besides, so many of us have the dialog committed to memory, the script would be a redundancy!

Book Review: A comprehensive behind-the-scenes book
Summary: 5 Stars

I have always been interested in learning how things work. This book was a wealth of information on the technical aspects of the making of this TV production. All the way from casting to the final wrapup it provides that behind-the-scenes insight which is not available to the general public. I was satisfied with the depth of information given, just enough to make me understand but not so much that I got lost in the technical language. After reading the book I went back and watched the series again and was amazed at how much more I noticed and appreciated. I highly recommend this book to any true Pride and Prejudice fanatic.

Book Review: What a woderful gift!
Summary: 5 Stars

As a gift to myself, I decided to purchase "The Making of P&P - since I have indulged in the movie 5 times, I thought it would shed light on how such a huge undertaking was accomplished. I am happy to report it did not disappoint me one iota! This book has wonderful pictures and insight into the filming and the locations. I fell in love with the mini-series on A&E as it was my first introduction to Jane Austen. Since that first introduction, I have read all of her works (thankyou Amazon.com)and have seen most of the screen adaptations. I am hopelessly lost in the world of Regency and greatly enjoying every page!

Book Review: A must have for P&P fans
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is a must-have for serious Pride and Prejudice fans. It's loaded with beautiful color photos. There are pictures of the actors on the set, the English countryside where the miniseries was set, and scenes taken from the miniseries. The book gives behind the scenes information on how several of the actors were chosen for their roles and how the locations were chosen. I especially like the publicity photos of the actors as they look when not in their costumes. Some are barely recognizable! It's a great book to have if you love the miniseries as I do.

Book Review: The Making of Pride and Prejudice
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this book on a trip to England in 1996 at the BBC store in London, and thought it was a great insight into the actors and the production. The best part was the map which showed where the properties were located in England. I then planned my next trip with my daughters around that map, and we were able to visit Pemberly (Lyme Park) and Rosings Park (Belton House). It was great fun! For the last five years, I always lend this book to those persons to whom I lend the video, and they are always glad I did. It is a must for Pride and Prejudice addicts.
