Book Reviews of The Making of Pride and Prejudice (BBC)Book Review: Darcy gets deep Summary: 4 Stars
A wonderful adjunct to the A&E miniseries, this book will delight anyone who liked the video. It is especially good for aspiring set and costume designers, producers, actors or anyone wanting to get more involved in film production. I especially liked the depth of the interview with Colin Firth, regarding why he took the role of Mr. Darcy, and the inner motivations he used to make his portrayal more authentic. I enjoyed the video in a renewed way after understanding Darcy's reasoning in key scenes. I would have liked more of this kind of in-depth interview from the other principal actors. Long live Pride & Prejudice, and Jane Austen adaptations as good as this one.
Book Review: A Must-Have For A&E P&P Fanatics Summary: 4 Stars
If you own the video of A&E's Pride & Prejudice, and practically have it memorized, this is the book for you. A fascinating description of how this masterpiece was brought to life and an in-depth look at all the work that goes into producing a six hour "film". I particularly enjoyed the explanations of the details involved in the ball scenes. There's a first rate interview with Colin Firth and tons of great photographs. The only reason I'm not giving this book 5 stars is, for my money, they should have included more interviews with the cast. Otherwise, it's a fine book and will be enjoyed by anyone who loved the production.
Book Review: Lovely photos and good information. Summary: 4 Stars
This book is a lovely addition to the BBC mini-series.
It has pages of glossy photos and information about the pre-production and casting. The casting in particular is my favourite as it has photos of the actors before the hair and make-up changes.
The only thing I was disappointed at was the lack of interviews etc with the cast. There are a few smaller interviews, but I would have liked to see a lot more.
Book Review: Wonderful! Summary: 4 Stars
I really did enjoy this book. I read it from cover to cover in one sitting. My absolute love for the BBC adaptation of P&P was further fuelled by the wonderful book. It really let us in behind the scenes of such a great production with the great pictures. It would certainly have been even better if they had included a thorough interview, as they did with Colin Firth, with other cast members. Four stars for a wonderful book!
Book Review: Informative for a TV Buff and an Austin Fan. Summary: 4 Stars
An interesting inside look at how the series Pride and Prejudice was made. As always accuracy and attention to detail showed in this excellent production. Even the fabric chosen for dresses was in keeping with the time period. Great theatre, great TV, great book!
